Resolve Editor Keyboard & Console Support

Hello Blackmagic,
I purchased the Resolve Editor Keyboard is April. At the time, its release date was slated for sometime in August. It’s now September and there’s been no word of availability.
I also purchased a Fairlight Console. To date there have been no manuals and/or videos to support the device. To have spent so much money on these devices with no word and/or support is disheartening to say the least. I respectfully request some word and/or announcement as to what’s going on.
It wouldn’t only be appreciated - it’d be the right thing to do for those who’ve made these rather substantial purchases.
If I may, please keep up the great work, but please don’t do so without maintaining continued communications and support.
Thank you.

Can we get any word as to what’s going on with these pieces of gear? It’d be appreciated.

doesn't the fairlight console already exist for a long time? you would say there are manuals for that.
about the keyboard, I did not pre-order it, but i can imagine it is annoying to say the least. A little bit of clarification would be plenty. but that would not be BMD style as they have always been like this.
I have actually asked the support line about this, and i got a response with ''it is not shipping yet''

Hello Rick,
The BLACKMAGIC Fairlight Console is new. I never used the old Fairlight Consoles (like the EVO etc) so I have nothing to say about them. The new Blackmagic version is quite nice however. The problem is, there hasn’t been any real support to date; no manuals, videos, nothing. This is temporary, I’m sure, but that’s no excuse. No manual is unacceptable; especially for such an expensive piece of gear!
That said, the console is nice; built like a tank - and the software speaks for itself. It’s a great combination. It’s the product launch itself that’s the problem. Blackmagic should never again release products without proper supporting documentation, manuals and/or training available for immediate distribution after customer purchase. That’s bad business, period.
As for the Editor Keyboard...
Blackmagic should have enough respect for its customers to COMMUNICATE & INFORM THEM if something goes wrong with a product launch. If a product is unable to meet the intended release date, Blackmagic should own the situation and communicate what’s going on to the customer. They shouldn’t go silent, which is currently the case. That’s disrespectful to early purchasers to say the least.
Apologies don’t help - trust me - and I’ve gotten a few.
All said... this is the first time I’ve had a negative thing to say about Blackmagic. For years they’ve been everything I’ve could’ve dreamed they would be. Sadly, however, this being my largest purchase to date has only exacerbated the issues I pose here. I paid too much money to experience weeks without support and/or word about my purchases. I didn’t pay to be a beta tester. I paid to use my gear as intended - and I never intended to use my gear without support.
Thank you for your post Rick. I sincerely hope Blackmagic learns from my experience and improves their approach to product launches, support and communications overall.
It’s the right thing to do.

Well said Rob!
That's a shame for a big company like Blackmagic, where support is ususly really good.
I'm gonna wait at least another year before even thinking purchasing that fancy, and still unsupported keyboard.
That's good to know !

Funny enough Benoit,
I’m still itching to get my hands on my Editor Keyboard. (Paid for in full back in April by the way!) With release of the Cut Page, there’s no way I’d go without it. Sound contradictory to my anger for lack of support, but again, I think Blackmagic will get up to speed sometime soon. I don’t wish to badmouth them. I want to wake them up to user reality on the ground. They need to communicate. Whoever’s making the choice not to do so should immediately rethink the benefits of proper customer relations and satisfaction.
Thanks for your post.

I'm reminded by the oft-stated refrain from Apple about stuff like this: "we don't comment on future products." Or: "We don't have a release date for that future product, but we anticipate it will be sometime in the 3rd quarter." And that could mean September or October or even November (knowing Apple).
The typical corporate-speak response is usually something like, "we appreciate your enthusiasm for this new product, but we don't have any further information at this time. We would rather delay the release in order to eliminate any manufacturing or design issues, rather than rush an incomplete product to market. Please continue to check our website for availability."
I would practically guarantee you there will be several BMD announcements at IBC 2019 in Amsterdam starting on 9/13, if they follow the pattern of past years' exhibits.

It is also confusing by the way that alot of ''updates'' have been introduced already in some of the resolve release notes and product video's, while there is no sign anywhere on the website if it is released or not. Like what? where can i buy it? or what is the status of my pre-order? resellers are not informed. i wouldn't care if apple also does it this way.
if there has been said that august would be the estimated release period, a simple message with something like; we cannot release te keyboard yet, we are still on schedule for Q3 though. would be enough. especially if alot of pre-orders has been made.
anyway, IBC is indeed around the corner, cannot wait!

Thanks Marc / Rick,
I hear and agree with you guys.
But...
I‘m out of pocket a lot of money with no information to support my purchases. That’s a big phat no-go. Even my pre-order for the Editor Keyboard has been PAID FOR IN FULL SINCE APRIL.
Why paid in full since April you might say?
Because apparently, if you use Apple Pay to place a pre-order at B&H, you’re charged the full amount of the purchase at time of purchase instead of time of shipping.
I had no idea this was the case. This was my first time using Apple Pay to place a pre-order at B&H.
So again, I’m out of pocket, paid in full, with no support, no word, nada.
That’s not cool.
This year’s IBC event might be nice, but support and communication would’ve been much better received.
Hope you’re listening Blackmagic.
Respect to all.
Thanks again for you post!

Hello BlackMagic,
Just wanted to inform you...
The AUTO COLOR (C-Key) of the Resolve Editor Keyboard is NOT working as expected on Mac OS Catalina 10.15.4, using Resolve Studio 16.2.0.054. It doesn't work at all actually on my system.
That said, ALT-A works as expected.
Kindly let me know.
Keep up the great work!
AND STAY SAFE OUT THERE!
Best!

I am having the same problem. I am running the latest DVR on a brand new workstation. BTW what is the "NRST Edit" button for?

Hello Rich Beer,
Fixed the Auto Color button by simply assigning the C button to Auto color in the Keyboard Customization Preferences.
NRST EDIT means "Nearest Edit". Select it to navigate to it instantly.
Hope this helps.
Best,

Hi,
this is my first post in the forum ..
I have just received the editor keyboard and am really excited! Its so much fun!
Anyone know if it is possible to assign something like zoom in and zoom out of timeline to say opt/alt + jogwheel? Or if it is possible to assign any function combination to the jogwheel at all, that would be very nice!
thx
Steve

Ugh. Keyboard shipping still delayed...just got another notification that it isn’t coming I’m assuming for a while and as noted before - nothing from BMD on this. I hesitate to move over to their platforms if they act like this
