Proxy relinking issue

I shot some 4k footage with a Canon C300, which generated 2k proxy files in separate folders. I changed the names of the 2k files to match the 4k files, then pulled the 2k footage into Resolve 16 and did an edit. My plan was to then unlink the footage (after the edit was locked), and relink it to the 4k footage for color.

However, the metadata panel on Resolve is telling me it's still 2k footage, even though the find media function lists it as the high res footage. I then pulled the 4k clip into resolve and the two clips both say they are coming from the same place... only the metadata lists one as 2k and one as 4k.

This is pretty basic relinking functionality here, so what Resolve specific thing did I mess up or overlook? :-)

What happens if you move all the 4K files to a separate hard drive, then disconnect the drive with the 2K files? I suspect this is an OS bug and not a Resolve bug per se.

I was hoping to avoid that, but it's a good idea. I'll do a smaller test run before committing to the time it would take to move all of it...

Okay, I moved some 4k files over (and copied the project folder, as they are both on the same drive), unplugged the original drive and the same thing happened.

I was able to get it to work, but I had to drag the 4k file into the media bin, delete the 2k file, then force conform the individual clip... which isn't super optimal to do on a clip by clip basis for even an a 8 min short film (which this is), much less something longer.

Maybe something Canon put in their metadata file? This is the first time I've used a C300, and the fact the camera generated proxies originally had a different file name than the 4k counterparts made me leery.

Instead of force conform, after you delete the proxies from the media pool, right-click the timeline thumbnail, then Timeslines>import>additional clips, with either loose or exact name matching. This will do all the clips at once, as long as you point the system to the correct folder/disk.

Okay, I deleted the proxie files, so the files in the project *have* to be connected to the 4k ones. But, the metadata panel still lists them as 2k. So, how is that affecting resolution and is this a bug?

My guess is it's just a metadata bug, where the metadata isn't updating to reflect the relinking, but what resolution is listed in the media pool for these [4K?] clips? 4K?

The media pool metadata also lists them as 2K, but they seem to be functioning as 4K files... ie when I set the scaling for an HD timeline, they scale the same as 4K clips. Then when I drag the same media file into the media pool, it's listed as 4K and comparing the two side by side, there doesn't seem to be any difference in resolution on my 4K monitor.

So, yeah, the I guess metadata isn't updating for some reason, but they're behaving like 4K clips.

I work with much smaller proxies almost everyday and this always happens to me. It is only a metadata bug, the files are in 4k. In my case it is easy to notice since my proxy files are 960x540.
It is kind of annoying, but I never had a problem.
