Solving An Imbalance In Left/Right Audio Channels

PostThu Sep 12, 2019 1:52 pm

I am working on an MP4 video and the Left audio channel is much louder than the Right one. There's only one audio track. I've tried switching from Stereo to Mono, which didn't work. I don't know if this is solvable but any suggestions appreciated.

Here are the current settings:
Format: Stereo

Source Channel / Track/ Channel in Track
Embedded Channel 1/ Audio 1/ Left
Embedded Channel 2/ (this is blank)/ Right

Thanks.

I'm confused.

Is the right channel lower volume than the left, or completely empty?

OK.

My first thought is to change the Clip Attributes to two Mono channels and adjust as needed.

I've finally figured this out. It's weirdly hard to do and weirdly hard to find the answer online. Go into Fairlight and highlight the clip you want to edit. Click on Effects and find the one called "Stereo Fixer." Drag it and drop it onto the clip you want to fix. A little window will pop up that now lets you adjust the stereo levels independently.

There is an easier way to do this.
Go to the Fairlight page and turn on Automation
Track Automation Control.jpg

Then under the controls on the track header, you'll see a drop down list box that says "None"

In that list box, hover the cursor over PAN and from the popout menu select L/R Pan
Then a line will appear over the track that can be moved to set the L/R balance for that whole track

Alternatively to set the L/R balance on a single clip, just use the Pan control in the Audio section of the clip in the Inspector on the Edit page.

After about an hour of searching online and finding no results that acutally worked for me (this thread included) I finally figured out how to resolve this issue, at least for myself.

What I had to do was go into the program preferences, and under Video and Audio I/O I noticed that my "Monitor Speaker Configuration Format" setting was set to Mono. I changed that to Stereo and set both Left and Right speakers to my High Definition Audio Device.

Hopefully this helps someone in the future. Just wanted to post this as my solution was a bit different than others that were posted.
