Fusion "Not Responding" intermittent delays constantly

PostTue Nov 12, 2024 8:52 pm

I wonder if someone can help me. About to give up and get this done in AE.

I have Fusion 19.1 Studio, Windows 10, 128Gb RAM, GeForce 3090.

This is a relatively new Windows install, with very little else installed. I have uninstalled all virus protection etc while trying to debug this issue.

I've been having this issue since Fusion 17, but it seems so much worse than it ever was.

Even opening a fresh Fusion every 20 seconds it will freeze (Not Responding) for about 10 seconds, and then return, whereupon I have precious moments to click on stuff before I get another freeze.

Does this sound familiar to anyone else? I have Reactor installed also, but otherwise not much else.

I don't know what the issues is per se, but only time I've seen imediate crash was when it was related to GPU settings, so I set it to auto few versions back and all worked fine. In the fusion preferences, what are the settings for GPU set to? And I would assume you are using latest GPU drivers, correct? My suspicion is GPU but I don't really know for sure.

Yup, I've tried disabling all the GPU stuff in Prefs. I used to run Fusion this way in the past anyway.

Not the very latest GPU drivers, because they have problems with 3D renderers, but pretty recent.

Thing is, I've had this issue for a while. Even before a recent OS install. I only use Fusion a few times a year.

I did see someone else complaining of a similar issue in this forum but it seemed to go unresolved.

I've tried removing all virus software. I'm unconnected from the server. I may try remove Reactor. Running out of stuff to try. Everything else with this system works great including the 3D software and AE, Photoshop etc.

What kind of problems? There also shouldn't be any problems, so that seems rather strange. Are you talking about studio drivers for your GPU? They should be pretty well tested.

There are known issues with various renderers (Unreal, Octane, Redshift) with the most recent drivers. 522.22 are the last safe versions as suggested by Otoy, for example.

I actually just tried the very latest studio drivers (566) and Fusion does some really strange stuff. The entire interface squishes horizontally. Ugh... rolling back.

Bear in mind everything else I use behaves perfectly fine, it's just Fusion doing this.

Both Redshift and V-Ray are not on the most current recommended drivers. Given how touchy V-Ray is, you do what they tell you to do to make it work. Hanging back four to five months on drivers is the smart way to go for CG.

Solution 1
Resolve and Fusion were having some issues with Mapped network drives for me. I had to disconnect them completely for the program not to spool when trying to save anything.

Solution 2
In the Nvidia Control Panel, you can try messing with the 3D performance for a particular program. Maybe there's something off in yours? Here's what you're looking for...

Solution 3
It may be a long shot but check your Path Mapping to make sure you don't have stuff going off to places not available. Things like Drop Box folders or One Drive trying to be helpful and trying to sync your user folder to the internet all the time.

The recently used file lists can also be a culprit, either by being too long or trying to connect to a drive that is no longer available.

In Reactor, look for the DeleteFileRequesterHistory script. It'll clear all of those lists out.

It can also happen if your temp files are filling up a disk. Check to make sure you still have plenty of space on your drives. Fusion can sometimes be very bad about cleaning up after itself.

This is great. Thanks guys, almost all the things suggested here could be problems!

Curiously, Fusion from within Resolve is absolutely fine, so I've been using that for now.

I'll have to try this stuff when this next milestone is crushed. I'll report back if I find out which of these many things it could be.
