Bender3D1 node changes/inconsistency

PostTue May 13, 2025 8:38 am

Hi Guys,

I am very new to DaVinci Resolve, I did try reaching out by logging a support ticket... but as I am a free user, they have directed me to the Forum, very happy to be here of course.

My issue is that the Bender3D1 node appears to have changed, I was using it a few nights ago (I was trying to create a page turn in Fusion), everything was okay and I could see what I was expecting to see in the node (specifically "Strength"), I then had to delete the project due to an error on my part, after fixing said error I got back to where I was and the Bender3D1 node was displaying "Amount" instead of "Strength".

Once again, I am a complete novice with DaVinci Resolve and I was actually relying on the information that ChatGPT was providing me, which was absolutely spot on until this change within the Bender3D1 node.

I checked that the resolution/fps were correct, I made sure that just the image that I wanted was on the timeline, confirmed that my node tree was all connected correctly.

Out of frustration I closed DaVinci Resolve in hopes that it would clear the cache, this did not work, so I deleted the project (it is only a 2 second/60 frame render) and started again, this did not work, checked my graphics drivers were up to date, uninstalled and reinstalled DaVinci Resolve, then out of desperation and to clarify that it was not an issue isolated to my PC, I pulled my old Acer Nitro 5 out of retirement to see if I could replicate the issue and low and behold, I had the exact same issue on that too, so I have ruled out system issues, caching issues, version issues.

My question, I guess is, has DaVinci Resolve simply streamlined/unified the Bender3D1 node? ChatGPT seemed to think it was displaying information for a default bender node, rather than the actual Bender3D1... Or is this a regression in functionality, given that DV20 Beta is being tweaked?

It just seemed strange that the functionality WAS there, then wasn't about 20 minutes later, there was no update patch either.

Kind regards

I don't think Bender 3D tool changed. Chat GPT, collects stuff online from various sources, blends them together with zero understanding of context, accuracy or anything human might do. I highly suggest you stop using such methods as asking bots about information since you will likley outsource any of the critical thinking skills to something it has none.

Instead of bots, how about going to help menu and opening reference manual which will contain accurate information and comprehensive overview of the features and basic set ups.

Might it have been a macro created by the Effects on the Timeline page? Some of those will put down standard tools with weirdly customized names or parameters. I wouldn't put it past them to have slapped a UserControl on a Bender3D that changes Amount to Strength.

But I had the Bender3D1 node displaying “Strength” not 30 minutes before I completely restarted the project, the next time I went into it and had my node tree set up, it showed “Amount” instead.

Thank you for your message, I completely understand what you are saying, basically I have a little project going on at the moment and everything that I have done so far is with the guidance of ChatGPT, it has not steered me wrong with anything that it has described, everything that it says I should see has been exactly where it has said it would be… the Bender3D1 node that I had in my node tree was displaying “strength” until I had to close and restart the project, then after I had loaded all the nodes into the node tree, the “Strength” value had been replaced with “Amount”, it literally changed in the space of 30 minutes or so.

I honestly thought I was going mad, because it was showing “strength” until I had to restart the project, thankfully it is literally a 2 second/60 frames page turn that I am attempting and not a whole 10 minute long project with loads of assets haha.

I might have to simply find an alternative method to achieve what I am looking to do… I have investigated a couple of options and a Grid Warp with a masking effect seems that it might be a viable option :)
