Polygons for emojis

PostFri Jun 06, 2025 8:18 pm

Hey, guys.

I'm trying to create emoji expressions to merge in with some other objects. I'm not an artist and am finding it harder than I imagined to create simple line shapes, for example, the mouth and eyebrows. The goal is to create a macro that would allow me to then animate the eyes, mouth and eyebrows for flexibility in expression. Creating macros is fairly easy. Creating the shapes is where I'm struggling.

Even something as basic as the D shaped mouth is a challenge. I can use a polygon to create the top line, but then have difficulty creating a symmetrical lower curve. Any time I start adding points and adjusting spline curves it quickly becomes a mess.

For eyebrows I've experimented with a non-solid ellipse and manipulating the position and length parameters. Which kinda works, but because it's an ellipse it won't transition to the two flat lines that express the exasperation I'm currently feeling with my limited skill set.

I searched the forum for polygon but mostly found technical problems. My issue is a lack of fundamental skills in terms of even knowing where to start when creating these very basic shapes. I also searched YouTube but since I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for, YouTube isn't exactly sure what to show me.

With all this in mind, does anyone have some basic, 101 suggestions on the kinds of nodes / techniques I would use for this sort of thing, and / or links to some relevant tutorials?

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

For character rigging I would suggest moho, of course.

https://moho.lostmarble.com/

But if you want to play with it in fusion. Here download smiley SVG vectors.

Smiley SVG vectors

SVG Silh

Use this scrip to conver them to shapes if you like.

Use this macro to rig them.
