Possible Bug - Fu20 Wireless->Crypto Failing

PostWed Jun 18, 2025 11:49 am

Morning all.

So I am wondering if anybody else has seen this and/or found a way around this (or of course I could be missing something). Is this a bug, or something new I am missing with the new multi-layer settings workflow?

We have found that when trying to use the "new" Fus20 Crypto tool after a Wireless tool it fails. This is happening in both FuStudio 20 and ReFusion 20. I made a simple test comp with just a Loader with a multi-layer .exr seq with beauty and crypto layers.

As you can see in the attached pics, using the "old" proven Crypto tool from Reactor works perfectly fine in Fu20 - as is expected.

But trying to use the "new" native Crypto tool has the issue. This test has a Loader, links the Loader to a Wireless, and then piping the Wireless to the Crypto. When the Loader is directly connected to the Crypto it works correctly, but using the Wireless it fails with a console error. Using the eye-dropper picker in the Wireless->NewCrypto tool does not work or select a crypto-layer, but oddly if I use the "Pick" button the layers will display and allow adding to the "Selected Matte List" but it still fails.

I have tried changing the various Layer controls in the Inspector, but can not get it to work. Maybe there is some special sauce set-up in the Tool that I am missing?

Thanks in advance,

J.

And in further testing, it seems to be not just a Crypto thing. It looks like a Wireless tool will not pass on the "new" layers workflows.

I am still trying to get my head around the new Layers workflow, but unless I am missing something it seems like the Wireless will not pass all the Layers.

Yes, you are correct.
The Wireless node does not pass any layer information through (which is why Cryptomatte is not working).
There are still some nodes that do not behave correctly with the Layers system. The other major problem node at this time is the Paint node...

Thanks for the confirmation. Actually, after my first post I found your post(s) and that is why I went back to check other tools after a Wireless. Just wanted to make sure I was not missing some tool config that made it work, but I guess it is probably not intended behavior - more like they just didn't implement it (yet hopefully).

I would think it is pretty important to have it consistent throughout the tool set. As for us, having the Wireless is super needed at it is our workflow in Fusion using Prism.

Thanks again!
