Weird keyframe length changes

PostTue Nov 04, 2025 4:49 pm

I'm getting started in Fusion, and I am running into a weird problem when working on a composition. In the Keyframe panel, I have the little segment that shows the starting keyframe number and the ending keyframe number set to be the full keyframe length of my composition. I have it set this way on all of my text and transform nodes. But if I go back out to the Resolve Edit screen and lengthen the composition, I come back into Fusion and find that some of my nodes have their keyframes lengthened to match the new composition length, and some don't. I can't determine why some do and some don't. Is this a bug?

IMG 1: This is before I extend the length of my composition. The segment is the full length of the current composition.

Image

IMG 2: The composition was lengthened to 599, but this segment only lengthened to 490. Why this number? I have no idea.

Image

IMG 3: This is a different node, and it lengthened with the composition to the full 599. Note that there is no little arrow at the end of the segment. Why?

Image

IMG 4: This lengthened with the composition to the full 599, and it has the little arrow. (BTW, what is the arrow? It's not in the Resolve 19 manual, and I can't locate a v 20 manual. I thought it might mean "continue on to the end, no matter the length," but that doesn't seem to be occurring when I lengthen my comp.)

This is often the reason why a composition no longer works after resizing.
It would be nice if the developers could take care of it. This is very annoying.

The short answer is... what he said.

The long answer is don't bother to use the keyframe editor in any semblance like you would an actual editing timeline. It's broken on so many levels. Most nodes are "tool" nodes that are like effects but some are generator nodes. So something like a Background node can hold more temporal properties. Usually I find generator nodes like background and text+ nodes can hold frame length info. When you adjust the comp length, Resolve does a poor job of unifying the length of all the nodes. Any node that is an effect type node like a Transform doesn't care about frame numbers so it will just extend or shorten as the comp does. A generator node like a Background node or a Polygon node, of all things, will hold onto the frames numbers it was made with. You can drag them out in the Keyframe editor and the MIGHT stay that way but I've come back to multiple comps with 50+ Poly masks that had reset themselves to the lengths from the comps previous duration.

If the developers had to actually deliver a project using the tools they make, they wouldn't have let this be this way for the past 8+ years.

It looks like a job for the KeyframeStretcher node, if I'm understanding what you are trying to do. The KeyframeStretcher allows you to stretch parts/all of your comp, while leaving other parts not stretched.

The functionality of comps making use of the Keyframe Stretcher also depends on this.
Btw.: The Keyframe Stretcher also does not work as it is described in the manual:
