Z Depth channel and auto gain

PostSun Dec 13, 2015 12:28 pm

Hi, I'm using an Auto Gain node with the Z option on to make my Z channel values manageable, otherwise it's impossible to work with the DepthBlur node.

However, the auto gain changes from frame to frame and it's not consistent, causing the focus to flicker and shift erratically.

Is there another way to do this? The manual Color Gain node doesn't seem to affect the Z channel.
I managed to use a Channel Boolean and put the Z channel into RGB so I can use Color Gain, but then using another Channel Boolean to put it back into the Z channel is not working at all for me, not sure it's a Fusion 8 beta issue or if I'm doing something wrong...

The ideal would be to use some node that would allow me to change the gain of the Z depth channel without all this mess, but I'm open to any other suggestions!

Thanks,
Bruno

Explain "manageable." What is unmanageable about DepthBlur?

Forget what I said, still learning Fusion, just realized it works just fine, it's just that the values are too sensitive and have to be input by decimals. Dragging the slider for distance, at least in my situation, is totally useless. Any way to change a slider's default range by the way?

You shouldn't need to use the slider at all. The pick button should set it for you.

The defaults can be changed, it's an attribute of the input, you can set the min, max, center, default, etc., either directly or using UserControls. Once you set them, save a new default for the tool, or save it as a new tool setting or macro.

Yes, unfortunately the Pick button is not working on the mac beta, and the latest version doesn't seem to have fixed it either.
