Fusion 8 Release version

PostMon Apr 04, 2016 2:19 am

Fusion 8.0 Release

Fusion 8 has now been released, and can be downloaded from the Black Magic Design Website. This version is a major update of Fusion to operate on, and allow interoperability across, multiple operating systems and platforms.

What's new in Blackmagic Fusion 8

Blackmagic Fusion 8.0

● Mac OS X version
● Tabbed comps
● General performance and stability improvements

Blackmagic Fusion Studio 8.0

● Mac OS X version
● Tabbed comps
● Network licensing system
● General performance and stability improvements

Additional Information

Important changes since Fusion 7.7:

• The Preferences file has moved to UserData:Profiles instead of AllData:Profiles
• Swap Inputs hotkey is now Ctrl+T on Windows and Command+T on OSX (since Command+W is Close Window on OSX)
• Quad view hotkey is now Shift+Q (since Command+Q is Quit on OSX)
• Dimension tools have been moved into Stereo and Optical Flow categories
• eyeonScript and eyeonServer have been renamed to FusionScript and FusionServer.
• Name changes: script files have now “lua” as the extension.
• Python 2.x and 3.x as well as Lua scripting updates.
• The OpenCL FastNoise fuse has been combined into the FastNoise tool.

Fixes since Fusion 7.7:

• The Duplicate tool stopped updating when the upstream tool stopped rendering, not taking into account time offset.
• Fixed issue in sorted 3D rendering, that could cause drop-outs.
• Create/play preview is now disabled for 3D tools.
• Fixed UI delays if the global range is very large.
• Fixed crash if a 3D tool's transform inputs had an expression on each input and a spline on only one or two.
• Fixed crash when closing a comp using a Text Time modifier.
• Improved support for audio files with sample rate greater than 44.1kHz, bit depth greater than 16 bit, or channels greater than 2.
• Fixed random two-sided lighting on objects after using Override3D to override the Material ID.
• Fixed random two-sided lighting on Text3D when the opacity or alpha is not 1.0.
• Improved performance when using Override3D to override the Object ID or Material ID of Duplicate3D output.
• Duplicate3D Time Offset now works for the Linear transform method.
• Duplicate3D no longer shows regions that aren't applicable.
• Fixed issue with region modes in Duplicate3D with the Mesh region.
• Fixed variable scopes using python from the console view.
• Material viewer now takes into account the HiQ option.
• DeckLink/UltraStudio/Intensity support now outputs a black frame when a tool is unviewed, and redisplays the last image if the video mode is changed.
• Fixed crash writing JPEG2000 files in some cases.
• Fixed incorrect output writing JPEG2000 from float/out-of-range images.
• Resizing the navigator subview did update the visible image area.
• Connecting the output of two pRenders creates a merge tool type based on their current output type, rather than always creating a 2D Merge.
• FastNoise Brightness input slider wasn't functional in gradient mode.
• Fixed the "Use Color from parent Particle" option in pSpawn.
• Fusion is now able to load the 3D cube portion of Resolve LUTs.
• Import and export of LUTs from ColorCurves now works if some LUT splines aren't enabled for editing (all splines are always imported and exported)
• Fixed double drawing of the contents of the A buffer when using split/wipe in GLView.
• Changing the saver format now updates the file extension if the extension matched the previous format.
• OpenCL device selection is now possible for all versions of Fusion

Will there be a Mac App Store version like with Resolve?

Hi,

Thanks for the release!

I have just downloaded and installed Fusion 8 and have immediately noticed that unlike the beta version, I am having major trouble with my Wacom tablet. Weirdly, If I have anything that is animated and involves a merge node, I can't scrub along the timeline (though I can click single points and it works), but at the same time, the viewport displays a marquee selection which is relative to the movement of my pen.

This also happens in the flow area.

Additionally, when panning in the flow area, the same pan is applied to the viewport.

I am using the tablet in mouse mode, and as I mentioned previously, this worked fine in beta.

I hope this helps fix a problem :) ... and hopefully quickly as I deleted my beta version install so am a bit stuck!

Best regards,

David

Is there any way to change the [ ] shortcuts?
In previous versions the position on the keyboard, as opposed to the key code were used for those. This allowed it to work on, say, German keyboards which normally have [ ] available as alt-8 / alt-9 only. In 8.0, neither alt-8 nor the original key position work.

This is a massive step backwards in usability.

Cheers,
Mike

I've also just noticed that (at least in the Studio version) the scripts that were included in 7.x (such as Archive Composition) aren't installed.

Cheers,

Very unlikely, as BMD would lose 30% of revenue, and Fusion would have to be adapted to support app virtualization, which would break a lot of things right now.

Are they dropping support for Linux? I would hope that the Linux version would definitely be an option for the commercial version at least...

I'm kind of shocked that they didn't at least add camera LUT support for their own Blackmagic cameras. :/

Well, I wonder would the situation be the same with steam store ?

Or at least I'd love to see something for windows only version without an usb dongle.

Don't like the idea of taking out one usb port completely while working, cause with resolve studio it's already two ports taken, and the average count on laptops is three, so you're inconveniently left with only a port for a mouse then (if you,re going to alt tab between the apps of course as they are both launched).

With the free versions of Resolve and Fusion you at least are free to do just that, and I consider this is a huge advantage over the paid studio versions;)

BMD doesn't need the marketing that Steam would bring. So really, they'd have to charge 40% more to make it viable. If you're talking Resolve and Fusion? That's an extra 800USD per machine to remove the need for USB dongles. I suspect for $800 some users would just get USB hubs.

With all the stores (win and apple app store): you know that there is a version of DaVinci on the Apple app store for just $499? Any other version is still $995...

I can imagine that there will be something similar for fusion

Is there no "follower" in the Text+ node (Mac Version)? Can not find it in the contextual menu.

What's going on with the scripts? I pointed the pathmaps at my exisiting scripts folders and still nothing.
Also, OFX plugins only with Studio right?

OFX is studio only

Scripts are in fusion 8 now with the extension .fu (for lua) also some libraries are renamed (everything eyeon) , so some tweaking has to be done
