Fusion 8.1.1 and Fusion Connect to Avid

PostSun Jun 19, 2016 12:24 pm

Had a poke around BlackmagicFusionConnect.lua and it seems that the script exits before loading the composition as it can't create a Fusion object (returns null). Presumably because the free version doesn't allow network scripting....

Shame, but the workaround (open the comp direct) is not too painful.

Some folks over on the Avid forum have this full integration working even though they are using the free version (no DNxIO either) while most others, myself included, see what you are seeing. Sad.

Yes, be good to know from BM what the true status is. If it is, as suspected, an Avid imposed limitation then that is foolish on their part, but not unsurprising.

It would be good for free Fusion to be fully working for a trial period whilst folks are testing it out and getting used to it. I'm sure that may will be happy to pay for it once they know it and have integrated it into their workflows. It could time out or have a watermark or whatever, but currently folks are unsure if the limitations are by design or bugs that would still be apparent in Fusion Studio.

Using Fusion 8.2.2 and AVID MC 8.6.4.

I installed Fusion Connect 8.1 and the Black Magic plug-in appeared in AVID. Dropped it onto a clip in AVID and clicked export. Fusion opened, but no .comp file. Manually loaded the .comp file from the AVID generated directory and it loaded, but all frames red (except I'd get one good frame of video from AVID about every 100 red frames). Image also got downsized from 1920x1080 to 960x540 8 bit. Added some stuff to differentiate in Fusion and rendered out.

The Clip was updated properly in AVID but those red frames were still there, so it was unusable. I have no idea what's going on, or if this is still a bug.
