Art FX

Hey chaps, I wondered if Fusion is able to create an "Art" style FX. Sketch, paint etc.
I can get it in FCP but I want the control that Fusion gives me.
I have been playing with emboss to get edges, but I thought there may already be something out there.

Basically I have a production which can't afford draw animation and hasn't the time frame for it, so I thought green screen characters treated and dropped into a graphic 3D environment might get a look the client might go for.
Any thoughts welcome.

Have the greenscreen characters been shot already? If not, you could start by applying high contrast make-up/clothing etc to the characters, to help the filters get more of the result you're after.
Also there are some plug-ins that can help you do this, but you need Fusion Studio to run them.

If you haven't installed the Krokodove plug-ins do so immediately. They are IMO must haves if you're running Fusion. There is one called Painterly that will apply a painterlike effect. Far from ideal, but it's a nice start.

In the past I've used the Monster Plug-ins, now part of Genarts. I don't know if Fusion supports the current version of the OFX plug-in. But there was one in there that could create pencil-like strokes, based on luminance values. I've used that to create a 'Take on Me' kind of look about 8 years ago.
There is also Crosshatch and similar plug-ins from the Genarts Sapphire range, that are supposed to work in Fusion as well. But as with all things, plug-ins will only get you so far. If you start out with the right make-up and clothes, that will maybe get you halfway there allready.
