If there is a tool in your flow that can't get its Background at a given time, it will fail the render. For any clip that does not start at the first frame of your comp, use the Hold First Frame control to extend it to the beginning of the comp. If necessary, you can use a Boolean set to Clear right after to remove the repeating first frame—just animate the Blend control of the Boolean to turn the clip back on at the appropriate time.
Another way to solve this problem (usually) is to Merge your Loader over a Background node. The Background will determine resolution and color depth and ensure that the image is valid at all times, even if the Foreground doesn't exist.
I say "usually" because sometimes the comp will fail anyway on the frame right before the clip starts.
