create duplicate layers of video with transparency

PostWed Apr 14, 2021 1:20 am

Hi there I would like to come up with an effect that uses layers of video that has different levels of transparency and are shifted relative to one another. Here is in image of some art by Stephanie Jung that I am inspired by. I would like to recreate this look in a filmed scene with movement.

I able to shift copies but I can't figure out how to set transparency.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Donovan

In the Merge node, reduce the Blend control. This will reduce the opacity of the Foreground (green) input. Alternately, if you want to fade that layer prior to the Merge, use a BrightnessContrast, tick the Alpha (it's deselected by default, but it's hard to tell because the button is white and the highlight is also white), and reduce the Gain.
