More efficient way to reproduce After Effects’ “Posterize ti

PostMon May 17, 2021 3:54 pm

EDIT: title got cut off. Posterize time!

When I want to make a 24fps comp “feel” like 12fps, I usually add a TimeStretcher node with this formula:

Code: Select all
floor(time/2)*2

so that Fusion only renders every 2 frames.

For some reason, though, if I’m working for too long, Fusion gets progressively slower and it seems like it’s working too hard to recalculate that expression every time. Is there a more efficient way to achieve this effect?

I usually use two timespeeds in a row. One set to 2.0 and one to 0.5 with no interpolation. I have no idea if this is quicker than using a formula in the timestretcher.

Oh, that’s a nice idea! I’ll try it out and see if it makes a difference.

Just an update, btw: this method seems to work way better hahaha. Which is quite funny to me ‘cause now my previous one sounds wayyy overkill
