Rendering outside only/making black transparent

PostMon Sep 27, 2021 9:20 pm

I'm having an issue with the black in this simple animation. I'm trying to make the black render as transparent.

In the edit tab I can add a background, and then in the inspector tab I can set the comp mode to add, which makes it transparent.

But as soon as I remove that background and move on to the delivery the black in the animation comes back.

Is there a way to render the outside only on a 3D shape in Resolve? Masking just seems like a pain since the 3D shape is always moving.

Turn on Cull Back Face.

If you're using a Shape3D, then it'll be in the visibility spin-down. If you're using geo imported from elsewhere, then you can use an Override 3D to turn it on.

That was so much simpler than I was expecting it to be. You're a life saver, thanks.
