I started with F8 using it lightly, then F9. Overal the F16/17 changes aren't that bad at all, some I like.

I don't mind the slightly larger easier to see, easier to hit with the mouse icons, its waste space around them. window boarders are thick. Maybe some one thought this UI was gonna be for touch screens, NOT !

What truely bugs the daylights out of me is that Fu in R has bad 2nd monitor output. No matter what settings I mess with 2nd screen output is always really dark with crushed gamma. I've messed withe the display settings to no avail. I can't believe its been several major releases and its not fixed, its a huge glaringly bad bug.

The inspector window, the controls are a bit too spaced out, the size is ok.

I'm going to +1 this because I have major issues with the UI fonts. Every character seems to be cropped slightly on the right side making it very hard to read the text on the screen.
The problem appears on my machine in both Fusion and Resolve (I use both for different).

I hope a dev will eventually reply to this topic.

There are good and bad things, I adapted actually quite quickly to 16, because of the shortcuts. Thats was a huge thing for me. And on 4k monitor the interface is ok, well a lot wasted but ok.
17.2 got a few layout presets that makes live a bit easier. Sadly it doesn't save these and you have to redo it every time you start the app. Hope that get fixed.
Personally I would love to have two viewers above each others and huge flow on the side. Floating panels maybe, but no toolbar.
Currently their buttons for the view elements properties, viewer, keyframes, etc. taking a lot space. Also often enough you do not need to have more than one comp open or see a fat status bar. That alone takes an inch on my screen. Horrible.
Basic work is on flow, properties and viewer.. so every other part can be shrunk down, till its all tiny tiny. Or we need a 32" 8k monitor next.

That said, the thing that I dislike most in Fusion is the color corrector UI. I mean why the hell do I need to select the color wheels individual. There should be 4 colors wheels visible all the time. The settings can be lot smaller and some stuff makes no sense, like brightness on master. It will ruin your image with even low values like 0.01.

I still miss Smoke and other Discreet stuff here. But competition was harder at that time.

It may already exist and I am unaware but a slider or convenient way to vary the playback speed would be useful. Quite often I would like to play through frames slowly and the only way I know of, is to set the fps in preferences. That is not ideal, as sooner or later a saver node will be produced at the wrong fps promptly followed by a long render, at the wrong fps. As far as I can see there is no fps in Fusion anyway, until the data goes through the saver node.
Such a control could also help acheive smooth playback when for example, a heavy comp is struggling with uneven playback. The playback speed could be reduced until it is at least smooth, slightly slower but smooth.

Well it appears BMD have done the bare minimum by adding the presets from Resolve and given the bugs with saving the layouts its pretty underwhelming. I hoped it was a start but no additional works in the subsequent release. They really need to bring in a UI specialist, both Fusion and Resolve (to some extent) are lacking in this department.

yes a useable UI, get rid of these unmmovable Button effects, nodes, inspector, key frames.

Completely pane and tab, user configurable and saveable.

and simplify viewer and 3D viewer navigation modifier keys.

Its current state is scaring me off and others I imagine

I really want to enjoy fusion, these things are making iot a chore.

I would be happy to pay a couple of grand for a pro version of fusion

Just adding (back) tooltips and context sensitive help would be a big improvement even if nothing else changed.

There's some things in Resolve I can't figure out if the UI skin is wrong or the event handling is wrong. Like there are buttons on the deliver page for muting tracks, but they don't do anything. Are they supposed to not look like buttons? Or are they supposed to mute the tracks? I can't tell. A simple tooltip would let me know.

My List

1. Many of the tools have duplicate/non-specific icons for mutiple settings tabs. The same "rmagic wand" icon is just repeated over and over, forcing you to click on the icon or hover or for the text tooltip to know what it is. This is example of why the old text based menus for such things makes SO much more sense. At least make icons that have some relevance to what the tab contains.

2. A lot of settings that used to be tabs are now dropdowns. Color Correct, for example, uses dropdowns for levels, r/g/b, high/mid/low now which requires a click, select and click again. This is much more futzing than the old way of just clicking on a single text button.

3. The new "click and drag value" in all numerical boxes is super annoying. I can't imagine ever wanting this behavior, and all it does is cause accidental changes to values. Now you have to click and wait or double click before editing using the keyboard. Once again, this just slows things down.

4. Too many view controls are now hidden or in the "..." dropdown menu. I really miss having the buttons to create masks (right click in view to create them always makes their center off origin), view controls, etc.

5. Overall there's a LOT of wasted real estate for menu bars and other UI elements. It looks like there's about 15% less space for views and node graph than before with no added functionality.

6. Where are the playback controls for previews now? I know you can use the mouse controls in the playback view, but I really miss having a UI to see what I'm doing. Maybe it's still there somewhere and I just don't know how to access it?

Mitch, as for #1 - you can now right-click on the icons and select either 'icons only' 'icons and labels' or 'labels' only. The last option is as close to the previous tab-view as possible.

There's still no equivalent for the toolbars, though, unless you remove the icons from your installation. You can't revert them to their OpIconString as they were in earlier versions.

I realize this, but as far as I could tell, Mitch's remark referred to the tools and the tabs on the tools in the control panel.

Could I please ask who here uses Fusion with a pen and tablet and what your experience of that is? For example, do you find yourself switching to a mouse often and why?

I'm especially interested in newer users.

I recently bought a One by Wacom and it feels pretty good with that to work in Fusion. Especially roto. But when navigating I use my Trackpad or the mouse. Maybe there's a better way to navigate using a Wacom but I'm not sure.

Colored nodes with just a stripe below instead of the whole node is just not functional. I color code my merges, animations, grades and when I zoom out I can tell right away what's what. With new color node system it's really useless for me to assign colors.

Not to mention the restriction to 16 pre-selected colors, some of which are very difficult to distinguish from one another. We used to have access to the entire range of 8-bit color, and I for one made use of that capability in my scripts.

Zoomed out, the tilepics are harder see, the colors are harder to see, and you have no indication of what outputs are unused.

Wonder why some tools have their text centered, and others are left justified.

So why are you not navigating with the Wacom?

I didn't find any useful way to zoom the viewer!
Panning works nicely by holding down CMD and use the Wacom Pen.
But zooming is just too unintuitive by clicking the pen button + CMD + moving the pen. I move and move the pen upwards to zoom in the viewer and suddenly my image is zoomed straight to the pixel level. Same way by zooming out. Suddenly my viewer is as big as the mouse pointer :!:
Do u have a better way?

Maybe I'm missing something but I simply press the lower button on my Wacom ( assigned to middle mouse button) and move the pen on the track pad up and down. For me it's working pretty great and the main reason why I wouldn't want to work with a mouse anymore. With a mouse it just takes me longer to navigate around the viewer and nodes.

Edit: I mean the Pen button.

But I don't have any buttons on the Wacom itself. Just on the pen.

I do mean the Pen button. It's simply middle mouse button (whatever that is assigned to) and dragging the pen on the tablet.

I realized that pressing SHIF+CMD and moving the pen actually works just fine. But zooming...no clue. Even when setting shortcuts in the Fusions preferences...not working. Any ideas?

It just drives me nuts.

Fusion was so usable at version 9. Then BM went and "Resolved" it, which pretty much was a gigantic step backwards.

On the Wacom preferences, one of the thumb button of the pen has to be set to "right clic". Then when you press it, you'll pan when hovering above the tablet, and zoom when the tip of the pen touches the surface and goes right or left.
Same goes for the mouse, but it's much harder to left and middle clic as the same time.

On OSX, a version of the Wacom driver didn't play nice with this feature, so I had to roll back to a previous version and advised Wacom support. It's fixed for me now, even on the latest driver.

This is interesting. Fusion lost its Wacom-friendly one click options when it was integrated with Resolve and those controls turned into dropdown menus that require two clicks. Now in Resolve 17.4, options on the Color page have changed from dropdown menus into one-click icons.
