Could someone please explain caching to me?

PostSat May 28, 2022 5:16 am

Hi folks,

I'm really struggling to get my head around node caching.

Please take a look at the film linked below.

In it you see i insert a channel booleans to turn the image red.
I then cache the node after it.
After that i first mute, then unplug, then delete the booleans.
My image remains red. So it must be cached.
After that i unplug the source material.
My image disappears.

This makes no sense to me!

Surely the whole idea of caching a node is so you can mute or even delete everything else that comes before it in the tree, to free up resources for elsewhere in you comp?!

You locked the cache and you're asking why the cache is locked? :?
