Possible to have a node slave (or clone) to another node?

PostMon Nov 11, 2019 11:55 am

Hi folks,

Imagine this:

I have a comp with two FastNoise nodes in it.

I want them both to have the exact same settings.

And when i tweak any parameter on one, the one changes accordingly, so they both always keep the exact same settings.

Is something like this possible?

Thanks!

Instance Your Nodes

Copy the FastNoise node.

Then right-click in the Nodes view, and using the contextual menu that just appeared, select the "Paste Instance" option. The two nodes (your original node, and the newly pasted node) will have their controls linked together and you will see a faint green line in the Nodes view showing the relationship between the instanced node to its' original parent node.

If your original node was called "FastNoise1" then the newly pasted in instanced copy of the node would have the automatically generated name of "InstanceFastNoise1".

Override Specific Controls via Deinstance

If you need to customize a few individual controls on the copied node, right-click over the individual controls in the Inspector view and choose the "Deinstance" option. This will let you change that singular field in the Inspector view so it can have a unique value entered, while still preserving all of the other linked controls on the node. :)

Saver and Loader Nodes

It's important to know that you can't instance a Saver or Loader node. That can be a bit of a surprise as soon as you start instancing every other type of node in your composite.

WOW, many thanks, and the deinstance thing is like an added bonus, that'll be very useful!

You can also take the output from a Fastnoise node and connect it to multiple other nodes.
