TimeStretcher fails

Using TimeStretcher node through Davinci resolve 16.1.2 on MacOS and it errors out.

Code: Select all
TimeStretcher1 failed at time 1

I tried on different footage, and a fresh fusion composition. Nothing seems to get it working. Is this a bug in the software or is there some sort of special trick to getting this to work?

There is not enough information in your post to be able to help you, other than with a shot in the dark:

Is the number in the Source Time field a frame where an image exists?

There certainly was an image at that time. It was difficult to tell what resolve was having issues with as there was no indications in its report.

It was due to the media format. After converting to .MOV, the issue was resolved.

I have seen many examples where Timestretcher works totally as expected and it will suddenly stop working for no apparent reason.
The only solution seems to be to delete the Timestretcher node and create a new one which will then work normally for a few hours and then stop.

Run into same issue with TS node. Use it first time in last version of Resolve Studio on simple clip and it fails to render with same "TimeStretcher1 failed at time 71" message. I think it's broken and need to fixed ASAP as it's only option to make speed ramp effect in Fusion

I'm going to quote Bryan here:

Because usually when there's a specific message like this, usually the TS runs out of images.
Can you show us your setup? (copy/paste your nodes into a <code> block in your message)

Maybe a cache issue I've had too. Re-try the whole process without any Fu cache involved...
If I remember well (actually, not sure at all), everything or nothing should be cached for the TS not to have issues, don't know what parts should be cached on what time, but making it work again by deleting and making another TS node may can make sense along with this theory...

Does this node work in FLOW interpolation mode? For me it crashes all the time, no matter I work from UHD Prores or HD tiff sequence.
I started debugging, new project, new comp, just dont work. I have a macbook pro 2020 and want to slow down an UHD prores mov.

I have seen an error message in fusion that the TimeStretcher node lack input vector.Y. Maybe I do something wrong - I havent seen any inputs such as motion vector inputs nor any options to play with.

I need to stretch a 22sec sequence to 30sec by freezing first and last frames gradually, and since retime tools in the editor is - sorry but honestly found it kind of a joke compared to other softwares - fusion is the only option - which I would be happy with. This is about a 2 minute job in e.g Vegas if I want to make it precisely.
I happen to know fusion for quite some time and many retime tools in other packages, like OFlow, Kronos, Twixtor... So I create my curve with ease/in - out curves, then when its set I switch NEAREST to flow..boom. I have sent a message too.
Thanks for the help, and sorry if I sounded frustrated.

I the mean time I realised that all I needed is az OpticalFlow node before the time-stretcher, so vector motion is calculated that point, and FLOW mode works at time stretcher.

Still I hope next Davinci going to have reasonable time editing tools and customisation even at edit level! What I miss is that I can't control curves, to create acceleratig, slowdown, linear and other ramps - only option is "smooth". Also to be able to set default settings for eg. RetimeSpeed.
Markers are not affected by timewarps, they dont stick to specific frame, so lets say I mark interesting points of a long clip and then I speed it up - all these marks are gone,
