Hallo everybody,
I'd like to import my CR2 file (Canon raw file from Canon 60D) but Fusion Studio can't recognize it, Or better I can not visualize it in the canvas...

However, if I import the same CR2 into Davinci, I have no problem...

Go ahead and drop the request for more camera raw import formats into that Fusion 18 feature request thread!

Hey, I had the same problem yesterday and couldn't find the way to fix that... and then I googled and found the answer I needed. I mean yeah it's too obvious and easy and you may lose in quality but anyway. Well, I decided to convert cr2 to jpg. And it worked. I converted using https://www.movavi.com/support/how-to/h ... o-jpg.html.

If jpeg gets you all the data you need, then great! However, the raw file probably contains more information than you can squeeze into an 8-bit int file format. In the future, I recommend converting to OpenEXR in 16-bit float, if possible, which can easily contain all of your raw data without clipping or posterizing.

I don't know if this will help in any way but in the few cases that I have experienced loading problems with mp4 files, I have changed the extension to AVI. Fusion then uses DirectShow to handle the file.

I would work inside DaVinci for not to loose the raw data for grading and use VFX connect to work in fusion.
Of course the raw data will not transfer to fusion so we usually choose the raw details per scene and transfer them baked inside for VFX work. Sometimes we do a pre grade for every shot before VFX.
Hope This was helpful, obviously that doesn’t solve the original OP problem.

It's not used internally in Resolve, either. The raw data is immediately tossed as soon as the image is converted to an RGB image. You don't gain anything by keeping it in raw format other than perhaps some performance if your file I/O is very slow.

You could try rewrapping the file in a different container without re encoding, using Shutter Encoder.

CR2 is a still image camera raw format, you can’t just rewrap it into different container.

What Chad wrote above about tossing raw is correct, Resolve does not work with or in raw data either. Any format decoder outputs already debayered RGB (or Y’CbCr if requested and possible) data. Only piece of software that interacts with raw data is the decoder itself. So the whole concept of ”working in raw” that floats around Resolve users is flawed.

What you could do is write your cr2 sequence to some intermediate format from Resolve side. I’d personally use exr sequence but it depends a bit on what you need to achieve in the end.

There are some "cut only" RAW editors out there. They're used for trimming clips down so you can save on storage and transfers.

It's possible for Resolve to have functionality like that where you could, say in the Media Pool, set in/out points and save out a new raw file that was just shortened. Or if you put raw clips into a timeline, export the edit as a set of shortened raw files and an EDL that referenced them. This would be great for dailies and such.

Resolve does this already. And one can trim for example braw files without ever touching the decoder, by simply taking data chunks and stuffing them together into new mov container. In Resolve subforum there is a thread with link to python script that does exactly that.
