Fusion OCIO update to OCIO 2.0?

PostWed May 26, 2021 6:58 pm

Hi, so after downloading Fusion 17.2 I noticed that OCIO hasn't been updated yet to OCIO 2.0 which is the standard now since VFXPlatform CY2021, CY2022 Draft is even looking at OCIO 2.1 already.

Since 17.2 came out after CY2021 I kind of expected OCIO 2.0 to be there already, I feel like this would greatly improve the work between different programs and not having to use legacy OCIO.

So my question is 'Are there currently any plans to add OCIO 2.0 to Fusion?'

I'd be interested as well.
I also hope that they look at the aces 1.3/2.0 situation. The last thing I read was that it's unlikely that there will be an ocio file.
(But don't quote me on that, I've read it somewhere on the aces forum)
Hopefully they also update the UI to take advantage of the grouping.

Fusion OCIO gives different results for viewports and nodes. This is a difference between CPU and GPU, and is solved in 2.0, apparently. OCIO node is very slow, so I hope they will support GPU.

I hope they fix the Clipping Mode bug (It's currently not working) in Settings Tab as well.

I just remembered that BorisFX Sapphire also has an OCIO node. This also doesn't support the GPU, but it is more than twice as fast as Fusion.

LD (6K ProRes 195frame) --- OCIOColorspace ---- Saver : 10m

x5!!!!!!!!! I've wasted a lot of time....

It will take some time before OCIO 1.2 or even 1.1 becomes legacy. VFX reference platform is spreading to wide use with a few year delay. But OCIO 2.0 would be nice indeed.
I do stuff.

I'm more than happy with the OCIO 2.0, but I'm also happy with the speed increase. The current OCIO nodes work almost exclusively on a single thread.

Hope that this comes in the next update, everything in the workflow has now OCIO 2.0 but Fusion is the only one lacking in OCIO features compared to the rest...

This would 100% be needed if people wanna have the same looks in Fusion as in Maya 2022 for example now.

I'm delving into Fusion and trying out the OCIO workflow but I have no default options in the OCIO Colorspace node... and when I visit opencolorio site Fusion/Resolve are not on the list of supported software.

I'm sure this is noob user error. Can one of you point me in the right direction? I'm not sure whether I need to download the config from opencolorio and install manually (if so—where do I find it??) or whether Fusion is supposed to have this built in already. If so do I need to enable it somehow? I'm on Fusion Studio 17.4.2

Here's a page I put together to keep it straight. It has everything you need to get going. There's a bit about how to get the viewing lut to work right that I haven't updated, but I'll add that tomorrow.

Ah thank you so much! FWIW I figured out why I couldn't see anything in the default config. I had remapped the LUT paths to a custom folder, so Fusion couldn't find the default ocio config.
