Mask multiple items

PostThu Jul 29, 2021 3:34 am

In Fusion, editing a fusion clip consisting of 2 layers, the bottom one being a clean plate.

Top layer (MediaIn2) has 6 marker pens. Every other one has a blue cap. I want to mask out all blue caps so the clean plate is seen instead of the caps. They need to be individual masks as they will move independently.

What is working is creating the mask and plugging in to MediaIn2.

What isn't working is when I add the 2nd mask, everything goes haywire. If I add a merge, it seems only the mask that plugs into the yellow input works. If I chain the masks directly to each other, one affects the other so that they can't both be masked at the same time.

So I'm wanting the 2 or 3 masks on the top layer to act completely independent of each other. On the color screen you can just add an input. That is essentially what I would like to do here. I would think you'd just add more merge modes but no matter how many you have, you just get the 1 yellow input.

Suggesttions?

In the example below, I added 4 individual masks that I can move independently. Does this not work or do you want a different behavior from them?

My main suggestion is that you use the blue inputs of tools - those are the mask inputs.
So in a merge the yellow input is background, the green one is foreground and the blue one is where you put your masks. Masks can be daisychained in Fusion so you can put as many masks as you want that connect to each other before wiring the output of the last mask into the blue input.

That's all there is to it.
