save a frame from fusion animation

PostWed Oct 13, 2021 7:33 pm

Hello,

This is driving me nuts.
I have a simple 5s fusion animation - composition done in fusion resolve tab.
I would like to take just 1 frame let say from 2s mark and then I could use that 1 frame as image and
extend it to any length I need.

I can do it in EDIT page with a video where I just cut 1 single frame then freeze that frame and then extend that frozen video to any length I need.

With fusion composition It doesn't work like this.
When I cut out that 1 single frame and freeze it and then make it longer my animation just continues.
It seems that fusion composition remembers the rest of the animation .

Maybe there is a way to cut it 1 single frame in fusion ?

Thank you very much for your help

Are you doing this on Edit, or on the Fusion page? Are you trying to freeze frame a Fusion Composition clip on Edit?

One option is to Render In Place your one-frame (or any number of frames) Fusion Composition and then it becomes a video file and you can freeze it in Edit and do whatever you want it with it, just like any video clip.

Or if you're working in the Fusion page, you can use the TimeStretcher node to freeze and image in time. Add the TimeStretcher node, connected to the node you want to freeze. Then double click on "Source Frame" to remove the keyframe it automatically adds there. Then set the Source Time to the frame you want to freeze time for. Now the output of the TimeStretcher is that node, frozen in time on the frame number you entered.

Hard to say what is the best option without seeing exactly what you're doing. If you have more questions on this, maybe include some screenshots showing what you're doing. Or a screen recording.

Not yet, I 've been little bussy , but I also found some workaround from a youtube video.
I 'll get to it in the next couple of days and keep you posted.

What's wrong with just going to the frame you want to save, view it in the viewer and right-click--> save image... ?

Doesn't that work in Resolve? The option is in the menu.

I'm not sure if what you're looking for is "how to freeze-frame a specific frame of Fusion Composition or Fusion Clip in the Edit page", but if so, Resolve doesn't currently support it.

Unless it's a very complex composition, my personal favorite way is
Store the Fusion Composition / Clip in a Compound Clip.
Place the Fusion Composition / Clip in another timeline and nest it in the main timeline.
If you do either of the above, you can apply a freeze frame to it. They both do essentially the same thing, and the common purpose is to mislead Resolve into thinking that the clip is rendered.
It is important to note that Fusion processing must be completed inside of them, so if you do Fusion processing on the Compound Clip or the nested timeline itself, Resolve will not support freeze frames as well.

In addition, there are other advantages to this method: no extra files are generated, and any changes to the Fusion process are automatically reflected in the main timeline.
