Fusion Studio 17.4 does not start on Win 11

PostSun Oct 24, 2021 1:36 pm

I updated to the Fusion Studio 17.4 from v 17.3.2. It splashes on attempts to start then quits. Previous versions were working just fine.

Hey Suhaib

You've probably seen it already but Peter Chamberlain of BMD gave me the answer to Fu17.4 not starting up on one of my machines - see the other thread. Let us know if this fixes your win 11 issue as well if you don't mind.

cheers

But you responded on the other thread yesterday. Anyway, here it is:

There's also a response from Shem Namo confirming that he had the same solution from Daniel Koch of BMD on WeSuckLess.

Thanks I did find it. However, scaling Windows UI to 225% worked for me for a while. After rebooting my laptop, I am back to the same issue, even with Windows UI 225% or 200%.

I just rebooted the laptop with the problem a few times and fusion17.4 still came up fine with the UI scaling set to 225%. Maybe it's a win11 specific issue.

Check 17.4.1 and try monitor scaling set to 100 or 200%

100% UI scaling on 4K monitor? One can hardly read the text on the screen with 100% scaling.

Anyway, it is better to right-click on the Fusion and/or Resolve EXE file. Choose Properties then Compatibility Tab.
Click on Change High DPI Setting. Check the box for Override high DPI scaling behavior and choose System from the dropdown. See image.
However, I think UI scaling issue needs to be fixed. It worked perfectly until version 17.3.x.

I've now tried Fu17.4.1 on the 4k win 10 laptop. UI scaled to 200% does what you would expect. UI scaled to 100% starts up but is unusable because of tiny type. UI scaled to 225% works as you would expect - see attached screenshot. UI scaled to 250% (where I previously had it) starts ok, but gives you very large type - see attached screenshot. This is a much bigger size change than I would have expected going from 225 to 250%. UI scaled to 350% gives you huge type.

So at least it starts. I can work at 225% for now, but it does seem to have become pretty inconsistent I'm afraid.

For me, 100% is too small for a 4K monitor, but 200% is too big. The forced high dpi setting had a lot of glitches, so I sometimes use "Windows Magnifier". The problem at 100% is that the spacing between the items is too narrow to press the default dot under the slider. I could lower "Grab distance", but then the control point of the spline would be too small to grab.

I guess the BMD guys are only checking on a very small monitor...
