Fusion 17.4 won't start on win 10

PostMon Oct 25, 2021 1:15 pm

I've installed FuStudio 17.4 on two separate laptops. On the first, it starts fine. Spec is
win 10 64b 21H1 build 19043.1288 i7-4800MQ 32 gigs Ram Quadro K3100M Bitdefender Total Security AV.

I then installed it on a second laptop - spec is
win 10 64b 21H1 build 19043.1288 i7-6700HQ 32 gigs Ram GeForce GTX 1070 Bitdefender Total Security AV

When I try and run it the grey screen comes up but after a second it gives an error message -
Fusion Studio has stopped working. A problem caused the programme to stop working. Please close the program.

I've tried
1) deleting profile 2) removing all OFX plugins 3) reinstalling multiple times 4) trying to start with Resolve up 5) swapping dongles
but the behaviour doesn't change. Fu 17.3.2 runs fine (on both systems). There is no Synology service on either.

I've checked the Bitdefender firewall and it says that the fusion.exe for 17.4 has been allowed.

I've looked in the error logs on the faulting GeForce machine and there is an error each time it stalls -
Faulting application name Fusion.exe, version 17.4.023
Faulting module name Qt5Gui.dll, version 5.15.2.0

There is no error on the quadro machine and again 17.4 runs fine.

I'm at a loss as to how to get any further - anyone have any ideas?

many thanks in advance

I have the same issue on Windows 11 x64, i9, 32 GB RAM and 16 GB vRAM. In the event viewer, I see:

Faulting application name: Fusion.exe, version: 17.4.0.23, time stamp: 0x617215a2
Faulting module name: Qt5Gui.dll, version: 5.15.2.0, time stamp: 0x616e5ec6
Exception code: 0xc0000005

Apparently Fusion Studio 17.4 is buggy.

Interesting. What amazes me is that it runs fine on the older machine (the quadro laptop).

Let's hope someone from Blackmagic reads this and gives us some clues . . .

I posted yesterday morning. No one replied yet. I have reverted to v 17.3.2. 17.4 is useless on my machine.

I tried starting in "Safe Mode." Doing "Clean boot", still problem.

Are you using the latest GPU drivers?

Yes, I'm using the latest drivers. And I've tried it on a different user login, fu17.4 still won't start on the GeForce machine.

Try with your Windows UI scaling set at or below 225%

That's it! Not that I'd ever have even tried that without your input Peter.

It's a 4k screen and the scaling was set to 250%. I put it to 225% as you suggested and Fu17.4 came up first time.

Given that Fu17.3.2 came up fine with win UI scaling set to 250% can I ask if this is a bug in 17.4 which will be fixed in the next release so scaling about 225% will be ok, or is it a basic change due to something else so will be permanent? Just so I know if I need to adjust my workflow on 4k screens or run with 225% for now and wait for the fix.

And many thanks, again - this is not something I'd even think of trying.

OK, Windows UI scaling to 225% works. I am also on 4 K and with bad eyes, the text now to small for my bad eyes. This bug should be fixed.

It is not a valid solution. I changed Windows UI to 225%. Fusion 17.4 started twice. After rebooting my PC, I am back to same issue even at Win UI scaling 225% or 200%
