Can't see text in final output.

PostSun Dec 26, 2021 2:13 pm

Hey all,

I'm a newbie to fusion and I'm attempting to track the scene and use that data to have some text following the movement of the camera. For some reason, I'm not seeing the text in the final output. (screenshot attached below). Would really appreciate any help I can get!

Your order of operations is wrong.
You should start by looking for a couple of camera tracking tutorials online. There are lots of them on youtube.

In the node world, just work your way through what you want to do.
In your case, I want to track a shot, and add text to it. I want this text to use the same tracking information that was created from that shot.

So you would add a shot (your media In) and you would track it. (Your camera tracker)

Start with those two nodes, and only those two nodes, and see what you can come up with.

When you look at your current tree, ask yourself where the camera tracker is, and how the information from that tracker is flowing to your text.
(a hint...it isn't)

I know you would like an answer that says, just move this here, there and there, but if you can start looking at your node, and understanding the flow, you will come up with the solution on your own...and learn fusion in the process.

"Work your way through what you want to do"

That is the key to really understanding Fusion (which I don't but am getting there.) I don't know how many times I've had a mess of nodes not doing what I wanted them to do. Then I ask myself what I'm asking them to do and I can't explain it. Casey Ferris is good about teaching this: "Ok, I want a background to appear. So I add a background node. Then I want text on its foreground so I add a merge and connect the text input to the foreground of the background node. I want them to move together so I pipe into a transform node. Etc etc."
