Resolve OFX Plugins

PostTue Apr 19, 2022 9:21 am

Hi, congratulations on the new 18 release of both Fusion and Resolve.

I just wanted to make a little request... Is there a chance we can get a few (if not all) of Resolve OFX plugins running on Fusion Stand Alone? most of them would just be so insanely useful in a VFX pipeline.

PD: The 150% UI scaling update on Fusion 18 looks f. gorgeous.

Yes please,

Mesh tracker
Object masking &
Depth extraction
edit: and the noise reduction tool

would be a life saver in fusion, the context just begs for it....

I bet if that was easy, they'd already add that...
But sure, yes, please, that's needed in Fusion.

Please yes! Fusion Studio is still super important in our studio and having all the OFXs from DaFusion would help a lot!

It doesn't make much sense just to add them to the color page.

Beyond reaching full parity between Resolve and Fusion standalone, more attention needs to be given to Fusion standalone as a product and platform.

To me it seems illogical to continue adding features that are meant for a VFX pipeline into a color corrector, while neglecting the actual VFX software. Better hardware utilization, USD, deep EXR compatibility, integration with game engines, are just a few needed updates.

In order to be an effective and viable competition to other products, Fusion standalone needs to be kept up to date with industry trends and features.

Off topic now, but I always thought the mindset around Resolve Fusion was odd.

Normally one would assume that a Fusion module inside Resolve would be a pared down version, something to give quick compositing features to editors for temp VFX etc. And the studio/standalone would be the full version that has the entire feature set.

But in Resolve it's the other way around, with the Fusion module having more features than even the standalone version.

Can fusion users in the resolve tab use these new capabilities?

Richard Cardona

p.s. I'm not a fusion user but I don't understand why the color page has so many effects that could either be in fusion or in a separate tab.

Please add Resolve's OFX plugins to Fusion stand alone (color space transform, mesh tracking, etc...)also consider adding the Magic mask tool. Without those tools the link between both programs is flawed and pointless. We need Fusion stand alone for many practical cases (render farms, high resolution projects...). Sell us whatever hardware you want us to buy un orden to fund It but keep Fusion!!!

Parity isn't even the issue. We're not saying it's not fair or anything. It's a better user experience and results in higher productivity if we have the tools in the most easily accessible places. The time it takes to round trip data between the applications is all wasted productivity.

Fusion Studio should have the ability to run Color page processing and the Color page should have the ability to run Fusion comps.

I'm very concerned Mesh Tracker has been put in the colorist panel.
Colorist simply do not have the skill set, or ambition for the skill set (typically) of a VFX artist.
They tend to want very simple tools that assist in the look dev.

It's always a nightmare when a client asks anything advanced finishing wise of a colorist. They end up failing, then It gets sent my way and I wonder, why did you waste billable hours routing it to them?

This tool will be much more well received as a Fusion tool

I definitely do not not want to feel like they're killing fusion, but the lack of attention has been concerning.
Its appreciate that BMD has focused on performance, but the tools simply have not been developed to the level they could have been.

Here is what is REALY Needed.

Soft and rigid restraints in 2D asset rigging.
Spline Warping
Better render APIs so people can actually pick up the slack of their 3D space dev.
It would be a life saver if we could actually use 3rd Party renders in the Fusion 3D Space.

The paint tools needs to be streamlined better. The Non-destructive workflow is convoluted and stuffed into the modifier panel.

But I get the feeling big changes are not made because they do not have their finger on the pulse of the needs of a VFX artist. Better not to try, than try and screw it up.

Best case scenario would be the colorist tries to do it, roughs it in enough to get the client to agree that the approach is viable, then they send you the comp for final, and you send the comp or rendered clip back to the colorist. But right now we can't do that because the colorist can't save a comp.

+1!

I agree with the statements here. Great release otherwise.

Features useful for VFX work have to be usable in the VFX /comp context. I understand the color & editor userbase is bigger, but I think this development continues to make fusion tab/standalone users lose trust.

Hope this will be considered for final public release. And please let me pay a monthly fee to support development!

+1 from me!

Just because ResolveFusion has a serious performance problem! When I play back a simple clip inside the FusionTab the cache is filling rapidly and no smooth playback is possible.
In FuStandalone the Cache is filling much slower and playback is almost smooth anytime.

Same with exporting. Exporting in ResolveFusion takes at least 2 times longer than in FuStandalone.

And the integration lacks also. When rendering a FuComposition in Resolves timeline (render cache) I get artifacts and flickering every time. Very very frustrating
