Loader errors

PostTue Jul 12, 2022 12:30 pm

Hi guys, we are getting a lot of errors in Fusion 18 on a loader trying to work on a simple MOV file:

"Loader1 failed to load file "D:\blahblah\D010_C012_30142129.mov" (clip "D:\blahblah\D010_C012_30142129.mov" at frame 59) : No such file or directory
Loader1 failed at time 59"

When scrubbing the timeline a lot of these errors pop up - and subsequently the camera tracker or similar tools all error out. I did try setting the loader to wait on missing frames but that did not work either. Any idea what could be causing this? The machine in question runs windows 11 and the files are on a local drive...

Any help is much appreciated,
cheers,
j

One more thing to ad: This only happens whenever we load the file into Fusion. If we load it into DaVinci and then go through the Fusion tab it works... Any idea why we are getting these errors from within Fusion?

What kind of 'simple' mov file is it? Some moviefile are notoriously difficult to work with since they don't have actual frames in them. The frames you see are reconstructed on the fly which makes scrubbing through them very difficult.

Thanks for getting back to me, Sander. It is a h264 compressed MOV as far as I know. What would be the best way to go about this in that case? Export frame ranges and work on these?
Cheers,

You mean : in Fusion 18, issues occur a time 59 but in Resolve (imported in the Media Pool > put on a TL or made Fusion clip) it never stops working, right ?
Last time I saw that by a partner, it was a codec thing, the time before it was a slow drive bottleneck stuff...

In Fusion 18 issues occur pretty much randomly - when we scrub the timeline and have the console open they pretty much fill up the console :) When we run a 3D camera tracker it does seem to error out on the same file consistently, though...
With resolve it is exactly as you describe though: When imported into the Media Pool > put on a TL or made Fusion clip it never stops working.
The slow drive and/or network drive I would rule out - this is coming straight off an NVME drive.

Ok, and what about the codec of the movie you didn't answer about yet ? :)
Since you're on a PC, did you try making a DNx.. out of it ?
Chances are Resolve is set to make its own proxies/optimized media or it has had time to cache or both.

But Loaders inside Fusion cannot import a video formats. Afaik loaders work with PNG, JPEG, TGA, and BMP. If you want a video in there, you'll need to have an image sequence prepared.

If you want a video media just drop it from the media pool as MediaInput

Loaders in the Fusion page of Resolve can't do video, but they can in the standalone Fusion Studio.

I recommend to always render video to frames when working with any compositing or other VFX software.

But that aside, you might also want to be sure that the drive containing your temp folder isn't full. Fusion doesn't police its Loader caches very well, and that error is a common symptom that it may have filled up your system drive.
