Rotate and scale masks in Fusion/Resolve 18

PostThu Jan 19, 2023 3:10 pm

In Fusion, we used to be able to rotate a roto mask by holding 't' and click+drag a point, and scale a roto mask by holding 's' and click+drag.

Since upgrading to Resolve 18, these functions seem to be broken. Has anyone else experienced this?

In what page are you trying to do this? The Fusion page of Resolve?
In Fusion 18 standalone all of these still work. I wouldn't expect them to not work in the Fusion page.
Can you show us a screengrab or something like that demo'ing the issue?

Hi and thanks for your reply.
I am referring to the Fusion tab of Resolve 18.x
There is no screen grab needed. It simply doesn't work. When I try to rotate or scale a mask as usual, the mask does not rotate or scale. Strangely, however, when I hold 'x' or 'y' to scale the mask along only one axis, it does indeed work as expected.
I'm wondering whether anyone else has encountered this or whether it's just me.

Keyboard localization problem, maybe?

Okay so with more careful testing I've discovered that the functions sort of work, but they are just super laggy. There will be a multi-second delay upon a rotomask rotate or scale action before Fusion refreshes. However, when dragging points, single-axis scaling, or a box transform, it refreshes in real-time.
It's almost as though Resolve hangs when I try to rotate or scale a mask (or group of points). When it refreshes, I only get the final transform (as opposed to real-time interactive transform feedback) making these function useless.

This is going to pose a big challenge on my current roto jobs.

Never experienced this issue on Resolve 17 (or earlier). And it's too late to backport my project :(

As far as the Fusion part goes you can backport it easily by just copy/pasting the nodes between versions. You can also install Fusion Studio as well and use Fusion connect to do your masking in there.

I had lots of issues with masks changing on their own in terms of size and rotation. Turned out to be my memory (only 16gb). I now have 32gb RAM and it doesn't happen anymore. In fact everything runs so much better now.
