Possible to work with relative paths?

PostSun Jan 22, 2023 12:50 pm

I would like to only ever work with relative paths in Fusion. Is that possible, so far everything I see is absolute path. Also is it possible to use scripts to get variables for the path.

In Houdini I would write $HIPFOLDER/$HIP_$F4.exr
This would output to the project folder with the same name as the filename plus added numbers in the end..
so /explosion_0001.exr.

Sometimes I move around the source files to new folders and it always breaks all the links and is a bit painful to reconnect them all again.

example
vfx_lava.comp - Fusion
Frames/vfx_lava_001.exr the output file name is the same as the project but with file numbers added

Is something like this possible?

Look up path maps in the user manual.

For instance, comp: maps to the location of the .comp file.

You can't directly put tokens in the file paths of Fusion's normal Loaders and Savers, but you can use scripts to fill the file paths. Or you could use fuses to load and save your files. Check out LifeSaver, for instance. I think there's a Loader equivalent that works only for EXRs, but I haven't been keeping up on the state of the art there lately.
