F2 doesn't work to rename a node

PostMon Jan 23, 2023 9:07 pm

Seen other people post about this but mine seems different

I right click on a node and the menu comes up, I select Rename... and the rename window pops up. Fine that works

I select the node, hit F2, nothing happens. I saw someone else saying that they could type text and hit enter and it would appear, which would suggest that the rename window opens someplace. That doesn't work for me. F2 works fine other places, but literally nothing when I hit it in Fusion.

I've reset the workspace, and tried on both dual and single monitor settings. I've also rebooted the system.

Am I missing a checkbox or menu option someplace?

Oups...
I started answering but it wouldn't apply cos' ... I know the answer for a mac, not win, sorry.

(BTW for those on mac : go to pref sys > keyboard, and tick something like "use F1 F2 etc as standard buttons", since by default those 2 are used for + or - monitor luminosity)

The answer for a mac is that the function keys are accessed with an actual function key (like a shift key)

Maybe your keyboard has a similar setup that most apps ignore?

Hi,

1. Go to keyboard customization
2. Search for 'label'
3. See Color / Nodes / Label Selected Node
4. Assign keystroke
5. Done

Thanks hvdpeppel, I got closer but still no cupie doll.

On Mac OSX 14.2.1

Strangely F2 does not appear to be mapped when looking at the Davinci keyboard display although it is listed right there beside the word "Rename…" in the pop up window on the nodes.
Using the work "Label" to find it in the fusion panel is an excellent tip.

Adding a new keyboard shortcut such as Shift R had no effect here but worked elsewhere – so renaming the media pool will be a treat.

Dang it. I have 30+ nodes to rename.

Did you read what's written a few posts above about OSX default keyboard mapping ? (you have one option to tick in yout preferences system > keyboard to make it work)

Hi Sam.
Sorry I totally missed what you had written in italic. Can confirm that does work on Mac. Have not adopted it though as it makes a mess of the rest of the row of F keys, so I'm holding on to my sanity as a preference for the moment.
Stashing for later.

If you do not enable the system preference to restore the function of the Fn keys, you need to hold down the actual "fn" key on the keyboard while pressing F2 to get it to behave like F2.
