Trying to duplicate Captain Marvel energy effect in Fusion

PostMon May 29, 2023 11:24 pm

Hello everyone,

I am trying to duplicate the effect from Red Giant's Captain Marvel Energy Effect discussed in the YouTube video.

Specifically, at 14:40 the speaker talks about using AE Find Edges to get all of the edges of character, then using Fractal Noise set to Multiply blending mode, so only portions of the edges show.

I'm going nuts trying to duplicate this in Fusion. I don't have my character against a green screen, but used the Magic Mask to isolate her, then used the Edge Detect node to see the figure in black but all edges in white...but then how can I apply Fast Noise to randomly have only some of the edges appear?

The video you have linked to doesn't show, since you're new to the forum. You can only post links after your first couple of posts.

Are you using Fusion standalone or the Fusion page in Resolve?

If you already have edges, then you're almost there. I don't know what kind of output the Edge Detect node gives. If it's a black and white image, you can do what you mention in your post. Just create a fast noise and multiply that in a merge node with the Edge Detect output to create 'holes' in the edges.

Thank you for responding.

I am using Fusion in the full, paid-version of Resolve.
