Resolution Issue: 3D Camera & High Res 2D Image

PostThu Feb 22, 2024 4:07 am

I can't seem to get a 3D camera to stay "sharp" in Fusion on images and I have made some example assets to demonstrate what I mean.

**EDIT** Due to 3 image upload maximum, I will add replies to this. Please see images in below replies.

Assets
- I have an image that is 5760x3240 (perfect 3x3 grid of 1920x1080 zones)
- I placed texts of various font size in each one for the test
- I made 3 cropped 1920x1080 images of each box for comparison purposes (will make sense later)

Davinci / Fusion
- My timeline resolution is 1920x1080
- I want to be able to be "full zoom / 100% crisp resolution" on each box, 1 at a time, with a camera that pans from box to box in the image
- I pulled a fusion composition into the timeline and set it up like this (including camera settings)
- the camera needs Z = 0.555 to be "viewing 1920x1080 box in fullscreen"

A) Is there a better way to "set up" a camera to simply go to an exact Z position such that it shows an exact "timeline resolution's worth" of the image plane? (i.e., instead of finding Z=0.555 manually, what if it's 0.5543721...)
B) All I want to do is pan from 1 area to the next, but I noticed for some reason the camera is adding pixelation when it shouldn't be. I'm not over-zoomed.

I understand that zooming WAY too much with the 3D camera's Z-axis will appear pixelated, much the same as over-zooming in with a transform node, but why is it when the camera is zoomed exactly to the point of showing a 1920x1080 portion of the 5760x3240 image, it pixelates it?

I exported a still image from the timeline via the 3D camera to compare to what it should look like, and although it's not extremely noticeable in this example case, it is very noticeable in real working images.

I played around with every setting I could, like focal length, plane, etc. and cannot solve it.

Lastly, I tried placing the image into the timeline and just using its built-in transform inputs to move around with zooms, but 1) it doesn't work unless my project settings are "centered with no crop" and 2) it doesn't have the ability to do nice 3D pans (maybe with Pitch/Yaw or DVE somehow, but I really would prefer if the camera in fusion would work the way I'm trying to use it).

This has been an issue for me for nearly 2 years - any help would be greatly appreciated.

Interestingly enough, the 3d Camera 1920x1080 Exported Stills are 6MB (too large to attach here) and yet they are pixelated VS the 45kB true 1920x1080 images.
