A question that comes up occasionally, especially from AE users, is how to modify an existing animation using an expression or Modifier. So here's a brief tutorial:

In Resolve 18.1 they added the ability to use the Resolve FX Keyers like the 3D Keyer in the Fusion page. There is a small issue with its use which I go over in this video how to fix it.

Hi everyone,

I created a Fusion tutorial for the people over at Action VFX. Of course it's intended to help them sell products, but I feel it contains more than enough useful information to be of interest for everyone interested in all things Fusion.

Here is a video I did on Auto Relative Positioning of Text+ nodes so that the text doesn't overlap. It can also be used for images placed after a Text+ node.

Thanks a lot for recommendation. I've beem looking for something similar at Udemy and other sources, but couldn't find the one with the effects collected at one place. Here it is. At least seems to be...

From compositing and animation, to 3D and beyond, everything you need to get started with Fusion is right here: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/produc ... n/training

I have Studio 18 -- Is Fusion 18 included or is that a separate product?

I notice on that training web page it shows Davinci Resolve free version and Fusion 18. So is Fusion 18 included in paid Davinci Resolve Studio that I'm running now?

Thanks,
Robert

Following the nomenclature of free Resolve and Resolve Studio, there's no longer a standalone free Fusion product, but there's a standalone Fusion Studio product that can be activated using your Resolve Studio activation key. If you have already activated Resolve Studio, activating Fusion Studio on the same computer will activate it without using up another of your two possible simultaneous activations. Fusion Studio can be downloaded from the support page: https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/support/family/davinci-resolve-and-fusion

If you have a USB dongle instead of an activation key it will just work.

Resolve (both free and Studio) does have an integrated Fusion page that is pretty good but doesn't have all the features of Fusion Studio.

In my experience, the standalone version is also more stable.

Hi everyone,

I'm starting a semi-regular series on all things Fusion, where I will be giving tips and tricks about Fusion.
I will also be responding to user questions and make videos that show the answers (if I know them)
The first *regular* episode will be released next Tuesday, but the announcement video is here:

What a disappointment, however, to find after all these years you aren't actually green :o

Oh and mucho kudos for all the help you've given so many people both here and on WSL. You, sir, are a legend.

Hey everyone!

I’m an ex-Premiere guy here. After two decades of Premiere history, little over a year ago I switched over to Davinci, and that was my best decision. Loving the program, and now I feel I am ready to dive into Fusion. I’ve been watching YouTube videos, but it feels there is not much training out there that is structured. Everyone is diving deep into the program.

I’m looking for a tutorial series (hopefully free or cheap) that goes through the basics, but I can’t really find any.

I’ve done these so far:
- Watched all videos on BlackMagic website. The first video was ok, but I feel like those videos are more for showcasing the power of the program, instead of teaching the basics.
- Found some free course online, but those are too basics, and mainly sale pitches for the paid courses. One of those were Casey Faris. He is good, but I can’t drop $800-900 for one course. Maybe I should, I’m not sure.
- Udemy has some, but it seems they are not very recent.
- LinkedIn learning similar; only a few and not recent.

So far I’ve been using YouTube on small topics, and cross-reference the BM Davinci manual.

Does anyone have a good suggestions?

Cheers,
Balint

Hi Balint,

since everybody comes to Fusion with a different history, it's very difficult to suggest something.
You ask for tutorials 'going through the basics', but you also say that the ones you found were *too* basic. It also depends on what kind of content you're hoping to create with it.
Sometimes we get questions on this and other forums that are as a basic as 'how do I get footage into Fusion?' but we also get things like 'how do I replace this greenscreen background with a realistic matte painting?'. So going through the basics of the particle system will not do you any good if you have zero interests in particles, while going through the basics of the color corrector can be a 12 part course all in itself. So if you can elaborate on what 'basic' means to you, that would definitely help us in helping you.

Good point, and sorry I wasn’t clear. Most courses I found (non paid) are basics in a way that they show you a type of node. For example Matte Control. And then show you one use case scenario, but those are very specific, and then the sale pitch of “if you want to learn more, click to but our awesome course”. Those are usually multi thousand dollar courses. I’m ok to pay a few hundred, but not into the thousands.

To start with, I would love to do some smaller animations, customized lower thirds, text animations etc. Then stepping into more of the 3D texts and animations. I usually do color corrections in the Color page, and I don’t need to do some localized color corrections in the Fusion page yet. I see that as a more localized task when working with masks and maybe other added objects (like from Blender) where you need to color match the added 3D object to your scene. Do I see it right?

I might just start YouTube-ing projects I want to do and cross reference the official manual.

Yeah, I know about these, but the Editor pdf mostly covered the stuff that the videos cover. I looked into the Fusion pdf, and it seems it covers much more. Thank you for pointing it out, I think I’ll start going through this as well.
