feature request: Syntheyes distortion model

Hi!

It would be great if the next release of Fusion supported the Syntheyes distortion model.
Since the low price of Syntheyes has always been used as an argument against a native 3D tracker in Fusion I had hoped it would be supported sooner rather than later ;-)

Yes please! The inability to match lens distortions between fusion and syntheyes (other than a "by eye" match using the equalizer settings in the lens distort node, a pretty rough solution at best) is a constant problem for me. Given the fact that Syntheyes outputs Fusion files so well, thanks in no small part to Stephan's excellent work on the fusion/syntheyes bridge and exporter stuff (and bearing in mind the low cost of Syntheyes) a robust and "official" distortion utility that works with this great tracking software would be a big step forward.

Stefan also came up with a very useful python script that converts syntheyes to equalizer values so the the lens distort node can be used (available on WeSuckLess) but it only uses the first co-efficient so heavy distortion can be a problem. A full distortion model incorporated into the lens distort mode would be brilliant.

Never mind low price , it's just brilliant tracker, at any price.

Yes, this would be fantastic, no question.

Thanks, I feel flattered :)

Yeah, the conversion from Syntheyes to 3DEqualizer values only works on the 1st coefficient. The script (for the sake of completeness) can be found here: http://www.comp-fu.com/2012/03/syntheyes-lens-distortion-to-3dequalizer/

I wrote this before Fusion had support for PFTrack's formula. So maybe it's now possible to convert both of Syntheyes' coefficients for use with PFTrack? I haven't done any research yet...

My export script for Syntheyes (which is better than the one that ships with Syntheyes... Stereo, bugfixes, planar tracking!) can be found here: http://www.comp-fu.com/2014/03/fusion-syntheyes-bridge/
Unfortunately Russ has never included it even though I've sent it to him several times.

Hm... seems like you can't convert the 2nd Syntheyes coefficient to PFTrack either. According to this page (http://michaelkarp.net/distortion.htm), both PFTrack and 3DEqualizer are using radius squared and radius to the power of 4. Syntheyes, however, uses radius squared and radius to the power of three.

I already ask Russ for this.
I wrote this to him
Since the announcement that the basic version of fusion(WIN) is free.
I was wondering if SynthEyes would show more support on exporter with simple/advance lens distortion the same way with AE?
Since Im not have AE license and would love to take this opportunity to ask for support on lens distortion workflow inside fusion

This is what he reply
Russ (2015-01-21 20:52:52): (This is coming)

and Russ also working on update the export script, too.

Can someone from Fusion contact him?, and work on this together? To make sure the best workflow is possible.

would be much better if Fusion will have its own matchmove toolset

But it does have a match move toolset, just look for it in the help section.

Well, Syntheyes 1502 has just been released.

  • Powerful upgrade of the Fusion 3-D export, including 3-D planars, meshes, textures, multiple cameras, and built-in lens distortion.
  • New export of planar trackers to Fusion corner pins.

You can't really ask for much more. And while a native tool set would be neat, it would take a lot to reach the level of Syntheyes - both in terms of usability as well as quality.

Cheers,
Mike

Thanks for the update.
