Best EXR Type for Fusion?

PostThu Apr 23, 2015 11:14 pm

Hey guys!

Just grabbed the new Maya 2016 and Mental Ray, as there have been a lot of performance boosts to the programs. The icons will take some time getting used to  But for a serious questions: What kind of EXR is the best for Fusion? I know that Nuke prefers Scanline and AE likes Blocks (or buckets, or whatever it's called), but does Fusion have a preference? I know EXR use could be a bit better in Fusion, but I'm just curious. Never really thought about it until now. And I apologize if this has already been discussed, I've only been able to find .exr feature requests and debate over whether to use them.

Hi Mike,

ZIPS (scanline ZIPs), just like Nuke. Since Fusion can also only read specific scanlines for proxy modes.

Cheers,
Mike

It also depends on your requirements. If you are loading the footage over a very slow network connection, PIZ might be faster. There's a sweet spot for decompression speed vs file size, so if you really want to optimize, you'll have to find that out through testing.

Sweet, thanks you guys! I'll have to look into the types of EXR's again (relearn all the compression types), but this makes my life easier. Appreciate the help! :D
