Template question

PostFri Sep 11, 2015 6:55 pm

Is it possible to save out your own templates for later use in Fusion? For example, I want to use the Fast Noise tool to create film scratches and save that out as a template to use in another composition. Any help is greatly appreciated and a big thank you to the team for your hard work. Very much appreciated! ;)

Sure, two ways...

1) drag it into a bin

2) right click, Settings>Save As...

In the second case, the .setting can be added to a toolbar, bin, or can be loaded next time you add a FN to the flow. There's a bunch of other things you can do, but that covers the bigger use cases.

if you save a .bmp file in the same folder as the .setting file with the exact same name

mysetting.setting
mysetting.bmp

you will now have a thumbnail for your preset.

I tried saving it out with the .setting extension but kept getting told only .comp extension can be used. Will not drag over to the bin as well.

Using Fusion 8 beta 2 under Mac OS X, must be something I am not aware of.

Also, which folder should it be saved out to?

You need to right-click on the tools you want to save after you have selected them. It will add the .setting extension then.
