Upgrade Path from 7

PostTue Oct 27, 2015 1:45 am

Not sure if this is the correct place for this question... If we purchase Fusion 7 Studio now what will our upgrade options be when v8 is released? Is there an upgrade path? Any word on pricing either for upgrade or for v8 Studio?

My Vray license is dongle based and when I upgrade they simply send me a patch file that flashes the dongle. It is a fairly straight forward process.

It is a tough decision to purchase Studio right now if we can not tell how far out Studio 8 is from release and if our purchase will qualify us for a discounted upgrade fee or if it will qualify us for a full version upgrades to 8.

By guestimation do you feel we are 1 month from 8's release or 6 months from 8's release?

OK, I see pricing for Fusion 8 Studio has already been posted. $995. That is good to know but I would still like to know where we stand if we buy Fusion 7 Studio in the next few weeks?

Until further notice, those that have a Fusion dongle will be able to upgrade to future Studio versions for free.

There is a bit more to that. You will also have had to have your eyeon support subscription up to date for that dongle. So if you missed that year, you are not eligible for the free upgrade, and getting up to date is the same as buying 8

If I understand correctly I need to purchase Fusion Studio 7 from a 3rd party vendor? Where do I purchase the eyeon support subscription to assure the upgrade to v8?

You can just buy the blackmagic studio 7.71 for $1000 from re seller. If you were up to date on fusion, it would be free.
This blackmagic version has the entire set of tools that eyeon used to sell for 10x that amount, plus free render node software.

Thanks. It is a good deal. We have been testing to make sure it meets out workflow and now are moving forward with purchasing. Looking forward to diving in deeper.
