Newbie Question

Hey All,

Sorry for the newbie question, but I am excited about trying Fusion out in my office - we are all MAC based and run AJA KONA cards to our external monitors. Is it possible to monitor out from Fusion to those monitors?
If so, where does one setup external monitor controls?

Thanks so much

We only support Blackmagic IO cards in fusion. That being said, you can achieve similar results with dual monitor and floating fusion windows in full screen on 2nd monitor.

Well actually you can do full screen floating window with Borderless Gaming that is on steam and it costs nearly a couple of bucks!

Thanks Rony,

Unfortunately, my 2nd computer monitor is not (nor can it ever be) calibrated for broadcast, whereas my external monitor is calibrated every few months.
I suppose I can just do what I need to in Fusion, get it as close as I can and then take the final image into Speedgrade or Davinci, etc and to final tweaking from there to get my image to broadcast specs.

Oh well, thanks again for replying so quickly though

Interesting, so AJA cards can't just monitor a portion or scaling of a monitor?

Maybe I'm not fully grasping what it is you're trying to do, but there are some display viewers available in Fusion to help you keep your image within broadcast specs. There is a waveform monitor etc that will tell you exactly if your image is 'safe'.

Hey Sander,

My apologies, so basically, the image that one sees on their computer screen does not match what is seen on a television screen (or a film screen in a theater) - there are people who's entire job it is to calibrate monitors in post production facilities to make sure that the colors and levels that we are looking at while we work do match what will be seen on broadcast (etc).
The two most common kinds of breakout cards available these days are made by AJA and Blackmagic. These cards enable the computer to send out an SDI signal from the computer directly to an external monitor which has been professionally calibrated so that the artist knows what colors, levels, etc he is really working with.
At the facility where I work, we use all AJA cards for this purpose and Rony informed me that Fusion only supports the Blackmagic cards... so tough luck for me. Remember, NTSC really stands for 'Never The Same Color' ;)
