Creating Split Screen Effect

PostMon Feb 29, 2016 3:33 pm

Dear All,

My first post, so glad to be here :)

Noob question - I am trying to create a split screen effect with Fusion, ie showing two video clips side by side. What I have come up with is as follows:

1. Load each sequence with a separate loader.
2. Attach each to a separate 3d image plane.
3. Merge the two planes with the merge node
4. Position planes side by side in the 3d space.
5. Attach a 3d renderer
6. Attach a 3d camera.

Then, I fiddle with camera position to get the look of a split screen.

Is there a better way of getting it done?

Regards and thank you,

Igor

So, I have come up with another method that is far easier and is exactly what I want - again, any suggestions for improvement or different way of doing it is welcome.

1. Background node and first footage loader node feed into a merge node - background as background and footage as foreground.
2. Merge node feeds into another merge node as background. Second footage loader node feeds into the second merge node as foreground.

Split screen done :)

Works for me. And thanks for posting the second (easier) way.

if needed you can add a mask to the merge nodes to define where the footage is visable

one more way to make it is to use a simple dissolve node with SMPTE Wipe mode..
