Camera Crew Mirrors In The Billboard problem solving

PostSat Mar 26, 2016 3:47 pm

Hi, how would you suggest to approach a shot where camera on a steady cam moves in sync with talent from left to right and two billboards with ads on them pass by and they mirror the other side of the town and also the camera crew.
Has anyone encountered similar situations and happened to solve them successfully?

It always depends on the actual shot. Can you show us the shot?

Hmmm....smells like 3D-Tracking for me...

- Get a solid 3D Track,
- Paint a clean still-frame of the billboard
- apply Billboard-painting to an imageplane and match location in the 3D track.
- On the imageplane use a reflective material and add some fake (spherical) reflection
to bring the life back into the shot.

Cheers.

Eric.

It says the video is private, so I can't see it.

Totally agree with this.

If I were supe on this show, I would recommend replacing the billboard with a flat, low-con image with no reflection. IMHO, the reflection form the glass pulls visual interest from the characters. That's why your eye goes to the crew reflection.

For some reason the first time that I saw it, I thought the billboard was partially transparent, since the reflection occurs at almost the same spot the actors are walking. There's a good chance noone would ever actually notice it, if you just left it like this.

Otherwise, just follow Eric's and Lee's advice.
