Mac Beta - BG 2D or Image Plane3D & camera- stuck!

Hi there

I'm following along with these excellent tutorials and am suddenly finding i can't replicate a step during this tutorial video (@ the 8 minute mark) - bringing in a 2D background using a renderer for the 3d elements.

It wont let me post a URL but if you google:

you'll see the great tutorial i'm following provided by Andrew Devis.

I then even tried a 3D Image plane and a directional light & nothing.
I think i'm probably missing something very obvious....

Any tips would be wonderful.

The 3Im doesn't have an input, so it doesn't create any geometry.

I actually just added the 3IM and the 3DL afterwards when I couldn't get the 2D background to work - i will try figuring out what input would work... I wondered if that might teach me something.

BUT - Is there anything you can tell from this about why the 2D background isn't working? I followed the tutorial to the letter (twice) but my BG doesn't behave like his does... It won't show up no matter what I do...

your Renderer3D node goes into the mask (blue) input of the merge, it should be the FG (green) one and the Background node should be the BG input (orange). this should then put the Renderer3d over the Background

Now i have them the right way round (and I found i can even swap BG & FG elements using command+T) but for some reason i still can't see my 3D text elements... Both ways round just show me the 2D Background
Apologies - i'm wading through the 560 page manual v slowly...
