Does anyone from Blackmagic read this forum

Just wondering if anyone from Blackmagic reads this forum.

Because from what I see there has been a need for importing animated characters into Fusion for some time.

Yes it supports Allembic but it has issues with export from 3DS where it loses texturing information.

Why doesn't it work with with FBX animated characters?

FBX is the most common game format. It is created and supported by the leading character animation software.

Yet the only way to do this in the current version is to use a plugin from a japanese site and to convert the fbx into a .mc file whatever that is

Hi Jim,

Yes we read them all :)


Any animation that is Position, Rotation and Scale are 100% supported.

In some cases you may have to bake paths, reset origin, collapse hierarchy etc.. but that comes with the interchange workflow. In the many years that I've done this, we always take a bit of time to sort out how to prep our scenes for import into fusion, and that will differ for all applications.

Could someone point us to any tutorial on how to import animated fbx from blender since it does not yet export to alembic?

From blender you need to choose the FBX ASCII format to get animations to fusion
At least that worked for me with animated cameras
