Hello,

We would like to be able to install Fusion from command line, i.e. using msiexec /i.... for the .msi installer that we have downloaded. I can get this to work, but I do need to be able to change the install directory, as we use a different install path for all our software from the default windows one. I have tried both TARGETDIR= and INSTALLDIR=, but neither work. I see you can change the directory from the installer when run normally using a mouse, going to Advanced. Does anyone know how I can do this?

It's quite annoying that Fusion overwrites any existing installation on a new install
without an option where to install it to. It used to be like that in ye (g)olden days.

So you can't even have Fusion and Fusion Studio on the same machine
(in case you temporarily have to work without a dongle e.g.).

But you can actually
- install Fusion
- copy the folder from C:\programs\....etc to a new location (like C:\myFusions\)
- run Fusion from there
- install a new version
- copy the folder to C:\myFusions\NewVersion\
- etc.

At least this used to work up to F7.x not sure if it still does in Fu8.

And since we all do that, BDP is stuck with the support issues related to users moving/copying their install folders willy-nilly.

But I'm even more perplexed that there is a separate Fusion / Fusion Studio install. Why can't you just have a commandline option as to which version you want to run? Have two shortcuts going to one .exe?

Well...have you ever tried installing Fusion Studio and Fusion afterwards?
(Or vice versa)
By default, one install will overwrite the other.
*Really* annoying.

Having one install for both would be so much more convenient. That way anything you adjust on one would be reflected in the other. No need to manage separate installs.

And anyone can download Studio, it's not like there's a verification in order to get that. So I don't know why it can't just always be Studio and if you don't have a license restrict certain features.

Too many #ifdef's, maybe...

But they already have them now, most likely. I doubt they're using two different sets of source code.

Seems odd that you can now download a .msi installer, but it does not follow either of the INSTALLDIR or TARGETDIR options. Going to have to do this a different way.

I was surprised to NOT have the option to install to wherever I wanted. Doing a force install to a user's C: drive is extremely inconsiderate IMO. I prefer to keep my system drive as clean as possible and have a separate drive to install programs on.
