What's new in Fusion 8?

PostFri Jun 17, 2016 8:31 pm

Hey, guys.

I've been using Fusion 7 and I see that now there's a version 8. However, I can't seem to find any link to a "What's new for Fusion 8" page. I've looked on the Fusion product page and also browsed the forums.

Apologies if I'm missing something obvious, but could someone point me to the link where they list all the new features and enhancements in version 8?

Thanks!

What's new in Blackmagic Fusion 8

Blackmagic Fusion 8.0

● Mac OS X version
● Tabbed comps
● General performance and stability improvements

Blackmagic Fusion Studio 8.0

● Mac OS X version
● Tabbed comps
● Network licensing system
● General performance and stability improvements

Additional Information

Important changes since Fusion 7.7:

• The Preferences file has moved to UserData:Profiles instead of AllData:Profiles
• Swap Inputs hotkey is now Ctrl+T on Windows and Command+T on OSX (since Command+W is Close Window on OSX)
• Quad view hotkey is now Shift+Q (since Command+Q is Quit on OSX)
• Dimension tools have been moved into Stereo and Optical Flow categories
• eyeonScript and eyeonServer have been renamed to FusionScript and FusionServer.
• Name changes: script files have now “lua” as the extension.
• Python 2.x and 3.x as well as Lua scripting updates.
• The OpenCL FastNoise fuse has been combined into the FastNoise tool.

Fixes since Fusion 7.7:

• The Duplicate tool stopped updating when the upstream tool stopped rendering, not taking into account time offset.
• Fixed issue in sorted 3D rendering, that could cause drop-outs.
• Create/play preview is now disabled for 3D tools.
• Fixed UI delays if the global range is very large.
• Fixed crash if a 3D tool's transform inputs had an expression on each input and a spline on only one or two.
• Fixed crash when closing a comp using a Text Time modifier.
• Improved support for audio files with sample rate greater than 44.1kHz, bit depth greater than 16 bit, or channels greater than 2.
• Fixed random two-sided lighting on objects after using Override3D to override the Material ID.
• Fixed random two-sided lighting on Text3D when the opacity or alpha is not 1.0.
• Improved performance when using Override3D to override the Object ID or Material ID of Duplicate3D output.
• Duplicate3D Time Offset now works for the Linear transform method.
• Duplicate3D no longer shows regions that aren't applicable.
• Fixed issue with region modes in Duplicate3D with the Mesh region.
• Fixed variable scopes using python from the console view.
• Material viewer now takes into account the HiQ option.
• DeckLink/UltraStudio/Intensity support now outputs a black frame when a tool is unviewed, and redisplays the last image if the video mode is changed.
• Fixed crash writing JPEG2000 files in some cases.
• Fixed incorrect output writing JPEG2000 from float/out-of-range images.
• Resizing the navigator subview did update the visible image area.
• Connecting the output of two pRenders creates a merge tool type based on their current output type, rather than always creating a 2D Merge.
• FastNoise Brightness input slider wasn't functional in gradient mode.
• Fixed the "Use Color from parent Particle" option in pSpawn.
• Fusion is now able to load the 3D cube portion of Resolve LUTs.
• Import and export of LUTs from ColorCurves now works if some LUT splines aren't enabled for editing (all splines are always imported and exported)
• Fixed double drawing of the contents of the A buffer when using split/wipe in GLView.
• Changing the saver format now updates the file extension if the extension matched the previous format.
• OpenCL device selection is now possible for all versions of Fusion

Thanks, Eugene.

Major version number releases usually denote major new features, but it sounds like in this case it's a collection of bug fixes. Software companies tend to focus on new shiny objects for marketing, so it's pretty cool to see a release revolve around making the software more stable.

Appreciate you going into so much detail!

Thanks for the link, Tony.

I don't use Media Composer because I found this great program called Resolve, but I'm sure a lot of Avid people will appreciate that feature. :D

You're right, I hadn't considered that being on Windows.
