Fusion 8 playback stutter

Hey All,
I've noticed since upgrading to Fusion 8 my timeline now plays in 10-15 frame bursts - basically pausing briefly every 10-15 frames. I'm a long time Fusion user, so it's making it even more frustrating to me. The computer it's on has an Nvidia 970 GTX graphics card. I also have Fusion running on an el cheapo desktop with onboard Intel graphics - no playblack stuttering. My "work" workstation has a Quadro 4200 and also has no stuttering problems.
I've tried the newest, and oldest (available) 970 drivers without any difference. I've also tried all the combinations in the OpenCL menu in the preferences - none of which seem to make any difference.
At first I thought it may just be particles... but alas it's on everything - even if I make a flipbook!
If anyone else has experienced something similar, and found a solution, please let me know!
cheers, Mark TS
