Video output from Fusion

Hi All

Just in the process of working through some tutorials for Fusion 8 ... I don't seem able to find a video format in the saver node on Windows 10? Does anyone have a suggestion? I am sure that I am missing something really really basic!

Are you saying the drop down for saver file types is just not there? Or are you talking about a specific format?
Not 100% sure what you mean by a video format.

As far as I know there is still no AVI-support for example. Something I miss very much, since I use lots of Edius AVIs. Good compression, low filesizes, excellent image quality. 7.x could read/write those. Now there is not even an AVI-option in the preferences. And AVIs are much nicer to work with than 'I wonder what Gamma I'll be seeing today'-quicktimes.

Yeah, avi is one of the victims of going to Linux and macOS.
For QuickTime files you need to have QuickTime installed, because fusion uses the QuickTime libraries and not a custom solution. That's also the reason you don't get QuickTime in Linux (there is no QuickTime for linux)

Well, since there is a discrepancy between Linux and Windows, I don't see why they couldn't keep it in the Windows version. It's not like a facility that mixes and matches OSes will work with renderfarm incompatible files.

And there are lots of formats that are available for Windows (DDS, MOV, etc) that aren't in the Linux version, so I don't think it's purely about having a low baseline.

So, under Windows, I don't get the QT format option in saver...is this because it's 32 bit and Fusion 8 is 64 bit app, same problem as in (much) earlier versions? Or QT has been inentionally dropped from Fusion due to Apple abandoning QT under Windows...or just to keep the exact same functiontality between platforms as pointed out in previous posts?

Is there a workaround one could employ to output some form of video clip for fast previews (say, h264 mp4?)...? third-party Frameserver?

Thanks, but I DO have QT 7 installed in Windows. Do I need the Pro version? I only see picture file formats in the saver.

OK. Installed Fusion 8 on a Windows 8.1 machine and this time I got quicktime output available in saver (no AVI though, but that's OK, I'm happy with DNxHD .mov, not so much with h.264 .mov... )

However, I don't intend to upgrade my system to Windows 10 or higher just yet...what would be the reason for QT not being recognized in Win 7? I still suspect that it is, in some way, because QT is 32-bit...could anyone with Win 7 64-bit and Fusion 8 confirm they do have QT option in saver?

P.S. I'm kind of probably going to answer to myself with this: the accompanying readme.rtf states that minimal OS requirements are Win 8 or 10 64-bit so that's most likely the reason...it's not stricly RTFM, thus easy to overlook - who ever reads the files named "readme.xxx" ...

Me again...I just found out quicktime output is available with Fusion on another Win 7 64 bit machine...I don't quite understand why this is happening but I am not afraid...soldier on...

I'm not on Windows, but I remember seeing a lot of threads over in the Resolve forum, where some additional installation was recommended for W7 to make it work.
