Composition from After Effects to Fusion, does it work?

PostSat Feb 04, 2017 12:39 am

Hi Guys

I was wondering, since i had a composition in AE,
Is it possible to move the whole comp. And continue editing in Fusion?

If so, then how? Where should i begin

Depends how complex your comp is....
If you are using a lot of AE plugins you will have a hard time. If it's just simple compositing it will be easy.

You can't do that directly

Maybe you can copy some animation and layering with a script but I am not aware of any available

You can re-Export the camera form boujou as .comp file.
You can render the roto layers. Or maybe you can export the layers as svg

Hi,

After-Effects is layer based, Fusion is node-based.

After-Effects is 2.5D, Fusion is 3D.

The project-architecture of the two programs is really different. So it makes no sense to try importing After-Effects projects into Fusion.

I would propose to recreate the desired project in Fusion from scratch.
- it helps learning fusion
- you will find out things, you couldn't do with after-effects that way
- you will get a clean fusion project that's easy and clean reusable.

If you only need a small change in your After-Effects project, just do it in After-Effects.
If you need to reuse it in Fusion many time, it's worth to do from scratch in Fusion.

I hope it helps.
Peter
