Viewport issues with 32bit Float? [SOLVED]

I'm probably missing something obvious, but whenever I enable Float32 in the Render3D node, then I'm unable to view it in the viewport: I get a red cross instead. This happens with both the GPU and the Software renderer.

I can't seem to find anything on Google related to this....

Some further info:

Latest version (8.2.1 build 6)
Free version

Graphics card: GTX 970, but it also appears when I use the built-in Intel HD Graphics.


Interestingly, I just tested it on Fusion 7.5, and there it all works (i.e. no red cross...)

OK, managed to resolve it by renaming my .prefs file (so that it effectively goes back to all default settings). I still don't know which setting(s) caused the issue though; I had played with all (so I thought) relevant settings and nothing had helped.

Ah well, just in case someone else comes across this issue...renaming your preferences file may help.
